Student Painting Outside
Division of Fine Arts

The arts are alive at Carthage, partly because of the College's location in the midst of a rich cultural metropolis where some of the finest museums, concert halls and theatres in the world lie close at hand. Yet, easy access to Chicago and Milwaukee is only the beginning of the Carthage advantage in the arts. The departments of Art, Music, Theatre, and Communication and Digital Media also enjoy traditions of excellence that date back many decades.

Faculty and students are proud of the plays, concerts and shows they produce for the campus and the community — including frequent art exhibits, acclaimed theatre productions, and numerous faculty and student music concerts, some of which regularly tour in and out of the Midwest and to Europe. In recent years, the division's Christmas Festival performances have attracted well over 4,000 people to Siebert Chapel.

Our facilities include six large naturally-lit art studios, a computer graphics lab, the magnificent Fritsch Memorial pipe organ in Siebert Chapel, a flexible recital hall and art gallery, the Wartburg Auditorium for drama, and music teaching studios, ensemble rooms and practice rooms with fine pianos. Siebert Chapel itself doubles as an outstanding concert hall.

Carthage is one of the few private colleges in Wisconsin accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. The art faculty regularly exhibit works throughout the region. The division's graduates enjoy substantial success in professional careers and graduate work.
