GENERAL 691-I Whodunit?, 4 credits (Leslie Cameron)

In this course, students will read several murder mysteries and discuss them in small and large group format. We will focus on female writers and female protagonists. We will also watch murder mystery movies for comparison, and consider the psychological appeal of this genre (novel and movie). I will invite a local murder mystery writer and a private investigator to visit the class. The course will include field trips to a mystery bookstore and a mystery theater.

Each student will give an oral presentation on one of the several murder mystery genres or a particular murder mystery author. They will write a paper on the topic of their oral presentation or write a short mystery. We will conclude the course by playing How to Host a Murder. Beware!
