If you plan on graduating this year in December, January, May or August, it is very important that you take a few minutes to read the information below. If you still have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Send an e-mail to Associate Registrar Scott Bruce or stop into the Registrar’s Office to speak with us in person.
Students are subject to the regulations contained in the annual college catalog in effect when they enter Carthage. Students may, however, petition to follow regulations contained in the most current issue of the catalog. Students who interrupt schooling for more than one academic year forfeit the right to follow the regulations in the college catalog year of their original year of entry.
To review your graduation requirements, please use the following link to the catalog from the academic year in which you entered Carthage: http://info.carthage.edu/academics/catalog/index.cfm
Graduation evaluations from the Registrar’s Office are made available to graduating seniors at the start of the fall term of their graduation year, with updates during the year as needed. Juniors, sophomores and freshmen who wish to review their progress toward graduation should contact their academic advisors.
If you need to request an evaluation, an update to an evaluation, or an appointment to review your evaluation, please contact Associate Registrar Scott Bruce.
Please make sure that you submit your candidacy form no less than a semester before your completion. We use this form to confirm your intent to graduate, and to collect information including exactly when you intend to complete your courses and requirements, if you intend to participate in the graduation ceremony or not, and to determine exactly how you want your name to appear on your diploma. All graduating seniors are required to “File an application for graduation in the Fall Term of the academic year in which requirements will be completed” Catalog, P 8. We cannot consider you to be a candidate for graduation without this form. If for any reason you need to turn in the form late, contact the Registrar’s Office prior to handing it in. You can hand in the form in person at the Registrar’s Office, or send it by e-mail it, fax it in, or mail it to the Registrar’s Office.
Latin Honors are determined by your FINAL cumulative grade point average. Carthage policy indicates that all graduation requirements must be met for Honors to be read during the graduation ceremony and indicated on the diploma. Students that complete their degree requirements over the summer and then qualify for Latin Honors will have the notation of the honor printed on their diploma. Transfer students must have at least 64 graded credits at Carthage to receive Latin Honors. Students entering Carthage after Fall 2010 must also pass their thesis with Honors.
Based on the FINAL cumulative GPA, the standards for Latin Honors are:
Cum Laude in recognition of a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.0
Magna Cum Laude in recognition of a GPA of at least 3.7 out of 4.0
Summa Cum Laude in recognition of a GPA of at least 3.9 out of 4.0
