The Debate Scholarships

Each year, Carthage offers a number of debate scholarships of up to $10,000 per year, renewable for a total of four years. These scholarships may be awarded in addition to other merit awards for which a student is eligible, not to exceed full tuition. They are renewable based on participation in debate, strong academic standing and satisfactory academic progress toward graduation.

Recipients are selected by the director of debate by application and additional evaluation. All aspects of the application must be completed by February 25, 2012.

The Carthage commitment to scholars extends beyond the Debate Scholarships. Top students typically receive a substantial package of multiple no need awards, ranging from $5,000 to full tuition. Many qualify for additional need-based assistance, making Carthage quite affordable.

You must submit your application for admission and supporting materials to Carthage to be eligible for the Debate Scholarship.

The Carthage Debate Team

The Carthage debate team competes in NPDA/NPTE Parliamentary debate. This form of debate rewards the quick construction of rigorous arguments, as well as the ability to synthesize arguments into persuasive, coherent narratives.

Collegiate debate confers several benefits onto its participants. Debate is an excellent forum for learning how to reason about contemporary society rigorously while still communicating ideas both cogently and clearly. Parliamentary debate in particular trains students to apply themselves to a broad range of subjects. These skills benefit students in every discipline.
