Curriculum

It's okay to be undecided on your major at Carthage. Half of the great jobs that will exist four years from now haven't been created yet. To thrive, students must acquire thinking skills that transcend their current areas of specialization. At Carthage, students learn these skills—along with flexibility and adaptability—within the context of moral responsibility.

The curriculum is challenging and faculty supportive. Team projects are a part of many courses, and teamwork is encouraged, reflective of the competitive realities in the world beyond college.

A Senior Thesis, completed during your final year at Carthage, will demonstrate mastery of your chosen area of study. Your thesis may take the form of a research project, music recital, or other appropriate product of original, creative work.

Heritage Studies seminars will strengthen your ability to read critically, think clearly, write persuasively, and argue effectively. You'll use writing as a tool to organize your thoughts, and learn how to deliver a "killer" presentation. These interdisciplinary courses will help you understand yourself, your community, and the world as seen through the eyes of other cultures.

College Success Seminars help create an instant support system. Developing effective study habits, mastering time management skills, and learning how to resolve conflicts are among the varied experiences you'll share as you make friends from your first day on campus.

Carthage's Honors Program, offered to the top 10-12 percent of entering freshmen, cultivates students with exceptional promise, motivating them to take leadership roles inside and outside the classroom, and enriching their instructional and co-curricular careers as learners at Carthage and beyond.
