Financial Aid and Scholarships

Taking advantage of the benefits offered by a Carthage education can be surprisingly affordable.

Although tuition may be higher than some tax-supported institutions, more than $9 million in Carthage aid is distributed each year to incoming students thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends of the College.

Automatic merit scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $9,000 per year are awarded based on cumulative high school G.P.A. and ACT or SAT test scores. Merit awards for transfer students are based on the cumulative G.P.A. from the prior college(s).

The Lincoln Scholarship Program distributes nearly $1 million each year to incoming students who demonstrate leadership skills and academic strength. Students with particular talents in mathematics, science, French, German or fine arts are encouraged to compete for Carthage scholarships that recognize their accomplishments.

Carthage Competitive Scholarships for full-time students

  • Lincoln Scholarship Program - twenty renewable awards ranging up to full tuition, room and board
  • French - two renewable awards of $15,000
  • German - two renewable awards of $15,000
  • Math and Science - one renewable award covering full tuition and two renewable awards of $15,000
  • Fine Arts - renewable awards ranging from $500 to $7,000 are available to students with talents in vocal and instrumental music, theater, and art - open to both majors and non-majors.
  • Transfer Scholarships - fall and spring competitions award up to full tuition

Ninety-five percent of Carthage graduates complete their studies in four years and begin earning a salary in the fifth year. More than 90 percent of Carthage students receive financial aid. Significant portions of these award packages are scholarships and grants (no repayment necessary). These factors narrow the gap between the cost of a Carthage education and that offered by a tax-supported institution.

Carthage participates in federal and state education assistance programs, and offers student employment opportunities.
