Study Abroad

Carthage students often study abroad as a way to experience other cultures and master language skills that can provide a career advantage. Recent destinations for individual study abroad include: Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, France, Germany, Guatemala, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Thailand. Plans are underway to include Egypt and China.

The Oxford Program offers a full semester of study in Great Britain led by a Carthage history professor.

Strong Japanese language skills and an interest in business could help you land a Mizuno Internship, allowing you to work in Tokyo or Osaka, Japan, for world-renowned Mizuno Sports. Masato Mizuno, '70, company CEO and president, created this program specifically for Carthage students.

Former Mizuno intern Andy Nimmer spent the summer of 1998 working for Mizuno Sports in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. By drafting reports and proposals in Japanese and creating displays for exhibitions and trade shows, he learned how another culture conducts business. During his junior year, Mr. Nimmer studied abroad at Tokyo Gakugei University. After graduation, he worked in the in-flight services department for Japan Airlines at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. Today, he teaches English to Japanese business professionals in Tokyo as he prepares for a career in finance, business consulting, and international communications.

"Not everything you learn comes from the textbook. Most of what you learn comes from your experience and encounters along the way. The whole college experience is a learning process. Open yourself up to the world of opportunity."
