The 7-Week Format

Adult Education courses are designed specifically for busy adults who want to attend Carthage on a part-time basis. Carthage's 7-week format is perfect for adults with seasonal work schedules or varying work or family commitments. The curriculum is identical to that followed by traditional students, and is taught by top Carthage professors. In just seven weeks, you can earn the same number of credits as in a semester-length course.

  • Classes meet one evening per week, from 6 to 9 p.m., for seven weeks.
  • Seven 7-week sessions are offered each year — you can start at any time.
  • Financial aid, scholarships and grants are available.
  • You can earn a bachelor of arts degree in as little as two years (with appropriate transfer credit).
What to Expect

7-week courses fulfill general education, elective, and upper-level requirements. In addition to three hours of class time each week, independent work may involve individual reading, writing and research as assigned by faculty.

Students work with their academic advisors to select classes each term. Your admissions counselor will provide guidance from the time of application to graduation and beyond.

The 7-week Calendar

There are seven terms:

  • Fall I — begins in September
  • Fall II — begins in October
  • Winter — begins in January
  • Spring I — begins in February
  • Spring II — begins in April
  • Summer I — begins in June
  • Summer II — begins in July

7-week courses begin in the month indicated above, run consecutively throughout the year, and are scheduled to start the week after the previous term ends. Scheduled breaks: Weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

Semester Format: The 14-week Term

Select accounting, science, social work and upper-level education courses meet for 14 weeks. Classes meet one evening per week for three hours. The Social Work major must be completed in the semester format.

Students receiving financial aid must select either the 7-week format or the semester format. Upon approval, students may switch formats twice during their academic careers.
