Start Here

  1. Uninstall any antivirus programs you already have

    Windows: Use the Add/Remove Programs control panel to uninstall programs such as Norton or MacAfee

  2. Install copy of Symantec AntiVirus from CD

    Get a Symantec CD from the Hedberg Library Information Desk. Open the folder that corresponds to the operating system (Vista, XP, Mac) that you have. Accept the default options until the installation is finished. Updating the definitions will come later.

  3. Wireless setup

    VISTA – get a white instruction sheet from the Hedberg Library Information Desk or the racks by the circulation desk

    XP or other Windows – get a blue instruction sheet from the library

    Mac – get a pink instruction sheet from the library

  4. Wired setup (sharing a hub/switch)

    Use the green instruction sheet from the Hedberg Library Information Desk or the racks by the circulation desk

  5. NetReg – Open a web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.) If necessary, go to netreg.carthage.edu
  6. Click on ‘NetReg Agent’ to run the agent and determine if your computer is ready to be registered

    Update antivirus definitions as needed from the NetReg page. Then re-run the NetReg agent (step 5, above.)

    When asked to register, use your Novell username and password. If you don't know your Novell password, you can change it by clicking on the link at the left of the page

  7. Done! Your network and internet access should be working. If you still have problems, contact the Information Desk at x4357 (HELP)
