Configuring Wireless for Use at Carthage (Windows XP)
If you are a Carthage community member and have a Windows XP laptop with wireless capability, you can connect to the campus network and the internet at Carthage. The instructions below tell you how to configure wireless access in two distinct locations: 1) residence halls and 2) the library and all other academic buildings. If you want to use your laptop in both locations, you need know both SSIDs. Carthage wireless access points do not broadcast their SSID. You must know the SSID for the location in which you wish to connect. Contact the Hedberg Library Information Desk at x4357 (HELP) or in person to get the necessary SSIDs. Click on Start – Settings – Network Connection.
The new network name will now appear in the Preferred networks area but will not yet show as operational. Since Windows XP can define multiple wireless networks and will search for them in the order they are listed here, use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to put your listed networks in the order that you will use them most. |
