Connecting to Email and Blackboard from Off-Campus

Connections to e-mail and Blackboard work exactly the same from off-campus as they do from on-campus. We do recommend, however, the off-campus users of e-mail connect in secure mode to eliminate possible compromise of their password. Information on that is given below. Addresses of the systems are:

  • http://blackboard.carthage.edu
  • http://webmail.carthage.edu:8100 (regular)
  • https://webmail.carthage.edu:9100 (secure)

About secure e-mail
To install the secure certificate (do only once on each computer you use)

  1. Open your internet browser
  2. Go to https://webmail.carthage.edu:9100
  3. Login as usual
  4. On the next screen, click on the Security Certificate screen
  5. Follow the prompts...

Once the certificate is installed on your computer, you won't need to do that again until 6 months later. Each time you want to access e-mail securely, you will need to point your browser to https://webmail.carthage.edu:9100 rather than the regular address. To facilitate this, you may want to setup a shortcut on your desktop as follows:

  1. Right-click on your desktop
  2. Select New -> Shortcut
  3. In the box, type https://webmail.carthage.edu:9100 Click Next
  4. In the next box, type Secure Carthage e-mail. Click Finish.
