Carthage has Target Language Experts (TLE) from several foreign countries that presented Christmas Around the World. 

In France we discovered Pere Noel (Father Christmas) who comes to fill the children’s shoes with gifts.  After a midnight Mass they have a festive supper called the Le reveillon. 

In South America there are the nine days of posada that reenact Mary and Joseph’s search for lodging and at the end of the evening is a large feast. 

Saint Nicholas is from Germany and visits the children with candy and treats on December 6 for St. Nicholas Day.  There is also a special spice cake called lebkuchen that many families enjoy in Germany. This gave many of us an opportunity to understand why our families have some of the Christmas traditions that we do.
