April 7, 2006 - Light & Electricity: Celebrating Benjamin Franklin's 300th Birthday

sps2In honor of the 300th Birthday of Benjamin Franklisps6n, the Society of Physics Students at Carthage presented a variety of exciting hands-on demonstrations covering light, electricity, and quantum physics.

Demonstrations included a Van de Graaff generator, to demonstrate coronal discharges and explain how a lightening rod (a Franklin invention) works. It also demonstrated static sps2electricity, showing that there are two types of electric charge and those oppsps5osites attract. We explored the principles of x-rays with laser patterns and spectroscopes. There was something for the whole family.
