"The Business of Children's Publishing," this fall's Center for Children's Literature conference, traces the production of a book from author Kimberly Willis Holt and illustrator Susan L. Roth through agent, editor, art director, publisher, marketing manager, and bookseller to its ultimate reader. Eric Rohmann, painter, printmaker, and fine bookmaker, "has perfected the art of letting the pictures tell the story," says Publishers Weekly. He has won two Caldecott awards, first for Time Flies (honor, 1995) and then the 2003 Caldecott Medal for illustration of My Friend Rabbit. The complete art work for My Friend Rabbit, ranging from notes, sketches, plates, and prints to the finished book, will be on display in the Hedberg Library during the month of January, along with illustrations from Time Flies, The Cinder-Eyed Cats, and Clara and Asha. A reception and booksigning was held in honor of Mr. Rohmann on January 25.

Larry Dane Brimnerfirst learned to weave stories with his family on Kodiak Island, Alaska, where they had no television and only sporadic radio reception. He is a prolific writer, with more than 80 books. Mr. Brimner will participate in Family Fun Night in the Hedberg Library this Friday as well as speaking inthe morning session of "Meet the Authors and Illustrators" on 7 October 2006 in the Todd Wehr Center.

Anna Myers is the author of numerous works of historical fiction for middle-grade readers. In Assassin (2005), she retells the death of President Abraham Lincoln, alternating adult's and child's points of view in the characters of John Wilkes Booth and the ficticious young seamstress Arabella Getchel. Ms. Myers will speak in the afternoon session of "Meet the Authors and Illustrators," to be held in the Todd Wehr Center on 7 October 2006.

 Lois Ehlert is a Wisconsin author-illustrator who has made love of color, fabric scraps, and collage techniques into such acclaimed children's books as Color Zoo, 1990 Caldecott Honor Book.
Her latest book isLeaf Man.

grand opening celebration of

 Gerald Morris
spent his childhood in Singapore with missionary parents. As a boy, he aspired to be a minister, a teacher, or a writer, and in fact he grew up to be pastor of a small Baptist church in Wausau, Wisconsin, author of a successful series of Arthurian tales for middle schoolers, and an occasional teacher. Having participated in the 2005 Summer Children's Literature Conference at Carthage, Mr. Morris returned to the Hedberg Library for Family
Fun Night in September 2005.
