While his degrees are too numerous to mention, he is a self-established
authority on whale watching in the Midwest. |

Fresh water whales in the Great Lakes? It may sound a bit odd but research recently conducted proves that whales do exist in freshwater and have been sighted in the waters of Lake Michigan off the coast of Kensoha, WI. Dr.Grugel, who has been researching whales for several days, spotted his first whale when he was taking a lonely walk on the beach. In Dr. Grugel's own words, "I couldn't believe I was actually seeing a whale off the beach in Kenosha. Because of this, I conducted the usual double blind Steenburgen sociometic chi-square study combining diagrammtic reasoning and auditory projection. Once I had the results it was only a matter of time before others started seeing them also." While others studies of the whales in the Great Lakes have reached slightly different conclusions, they do agree on several basic premises. One, that whales are mammals that can weigh from 45 pounds to 220 tons. Two, that the two current groups of living whales are of the baleen whales (Mysticeti), and the toothed whales (Odontoceti). The whales in the Great Lakes are of the toothed variety. Because of this, the Coast Guard is now reexamining unsolved sinkings in the Great Lakes. |

If it looks like a whale and acts like a whale, it's probably a whale. The
year round tropical temperatures of the Great Lakes are perfect for the
migratory patterns between Kenosha and Racine. |

![]() Whales can often be seen from one of many lighthouses in Kenosha or other harboring towns along the Great Lakes. Whales are mainly nocturnal creatures and are best seen during a full moon. The above chart clearly shows that whales are best seen in the early summer months. |
