The responsibility for the selection of material is shared jointly by the faculty and Library staff. Material is selected to support the college curricula.
Ordering is relatively easy. You may order by phone (5900 or 5910), by email (rh@carthage.edu), or in person (deliver your order request to the Library slot in the Lentz Hall mailroom, or the Circulation Desk in the Library, or to my office in Technical Services in Hedberg 142). It doesn't matter if your request is written on an Order Request Form (available in the Library), a slip of paper, or the back of an envelope!
Approximately every month, CHOICE magazine publishes a selection of reviews. CHOICE is a general source of book reviews, which seeks to evaluate books in terms of the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum. Emphasis is on scholarly works, reviewed by professors and subject experts. Where it is possible, books are compared with other titles in the same discipline.
CHOICE REVIEWS ON CARDS
1. Reviews will be sent to the Department Chairperson/Program Director each month.
2. The Chairperson/Program Director may select for the department.
3. The Chairperson/Program Director may choose to disseminate cards among members of the department.
4. Return all cards to Rick Hren.
5. Your signature on the card will indicate that you are recommending that a book be purchased. The signature should be readable.
6. No regular order form is necessary.
7. Cards should be returned as soon as possible. As books may go out of print quickly, no more than one month should lapse between receipt of the cards and their return to the library.
8. Cards labeled [Internet Resource] are intended to alert you to web sites on the Internet. They are not something we can order. They do not have to be returned.
CHOICE REVIEWS.ONLINE
As a complement to Choice Reviews on 3x5 cards, the library has subscribed to ChoiceReviews.online. ChoiceReviews.online has all the reviews found on the cards, plus the added benefits of access to an archive of over 70,000 reviews, a searchable database, and the ability to create lists of reviews for your evaluation or to email to colleagues. ChoiceReviews.online is available approximately 1-2 weeks before the cards.
The web address for ChoiceReviews.online is http://www.choicereviews.org. Enter a search term i.e. the name of an author, a subject term, etc., and you will be prompted for your login name and your password. Your login and password may be obtained from your department chairperson or from Rick Hren. Everyone in your division is assigned the same login and password.

IMPORTANT: If you email order requests to me from ChoiceReviews.online you must send email to my Internet address: rh@carthage.edu. It would also be helpful if you would note your name in either the subject line or the message box, so I know whom to notify when the items have arrived.
