Cardinal Oscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga, archbishop of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, is only the second cardinal from Central America. He is a respected moderate who has spoken out on social justice issues, in defense of millions living in abject poverty. Cardinal Rodríguez favors debt relief and the economic development of Latin America.
Cardinal Rodríguez will visit Carthage on Friday, 13 October 2006, to present the keynote address at the academic convocation, at which time he will receive an honorary doctorate from Carthage.
