The Poetry Underground (PU!) is an organization for anyone who loves poetry. We are open to all styles of poetry, including spoken-word and rap. Fiction writers, dramatists, essayists, artists, and all other creative types are also welcome. Whether you are a literary veteran or are ignorant of poetry altogether, this organization of open-minded artists offers trips to readings, open mic nights, poetry slams, and weekly meetings. Meeting times and places vary by semester. Bring yourself and any work you'd like to read!

Centrique is Carthage's creative arts journal. We are proud to publish the work of some of Carthage's most talented writers, artists, and photographers. To submit a poem, story, drawing, or photo, drop your work off in one of the submission boxes, located at the Writing Center and at the information desk in Hedberg Library.
Each year, Centrique sponsors two contests with cash prizes. Students may submit poetry, fiction, or artwork. The deadline for the Fall contest is November 15 of each year; the deadline for the Spring contest is March 15.
Submission guidelines
Centrique accepts submissions in any creative art, including (but not limited to) poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, photography, and illustration. If you make creative work, we want to see it!
However, before submitting, please read and follow the specific guidelines below. Each year, Centrique accepts submissions for the magazine as well as for its two contests.
All submissions will be considered for the current contest as well as for the magazine, unless the artist specifies otherwise.
Contest-only submissions.
If the artist wishes submissions to be considered only for the contest, title page must clearly say "CONTEST ONLY." However, all contest winners will be published.
Magazine-only submissions.
Similarly, the artist may specify "MAGAZINE ONLY" to be considered only for publication
in the magazine and not for contests.
Format for submissions of written material
We prefer that submissions of all written material (poetry, short stories, essays, etc.) be sent as Word attachments via email.
Format for submissions of visual art
If at all possible, photography and other submissions of visual art should be scanned electronically or digitally captured and saved as a .tiff file within the size range of the magazine (smaller than 5”x8”).
All submissions must have a cover page with author's name, title of piece, date of submission, type of writing, and any necessary notes.
ALL submissions must be accompanied by the required release form. (Click on the link to access the form.) You will need to save the form to your computer, fill it out, and email it with your submission.
The author's name should appear ONLY on the cover page.
This requirement ensures that all submissions are considered anonymously and without bias toward particular individuals. Submissions that include the author's name anywhere besides the cover page will not be considered.
Centrique does not accept "Untitled" submissions
All submissions must have an appropriate title at time of submission.
How to submit.
We prefer that submissions be saved in Word and sent as attachments to:
