Virginia K. (Marzolf) Whitlock, 1934, Exeter, N.H., She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Dr. John B. Whitlock, who was a professor at the University of New Hampshire. Mrs. Whitlock attended Nauvoo (Ill.) schools and graduated with honors from Carthage College, Carthage, IL. She held a master's degree from the University of Iowa. Prior to her marriage, she taught music in schools in Illinois, Iowa and Missouri. In the 1950's she was a supervisor of a project that pioneered electronic grading of academic achievement tests. Upon settling in Durham, N.H., in 1958, Mrs. Whitlock joined the faculty of Exeter High School where she taught home economics until her retirement. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, professional honor society of women educators. As an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newington, N.H., Mrs. Whitlock served as the director of the church choir for many years, member of the music committee, and participated in many church activities. Known for her love of gardening, she maintained well-manicured flower beds in her yard in Durham. She had entered and won prizes in several flower shows. During the post-WWII era, she and her family lived in New Orleans, where Mrs. Whitlock grew roses that were used to decorate neighborhood floats for Mardi Gras parades. Mrs. Whitlock was president of the Durham Garden Club and led that group in several beautification projects for the town of Durham. She was a member of the Strafford County Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include two sons and daghters-in-law, John L. and Dorothy Whitlock of Needham, Mass., and Stanley J. and Carolyn Whitlock of Merrimack, N.H., and one daughter and son-in-law, Susan V. (Whitlock) and Kenneth Dickson of Murieta, Calif. She also leaves six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Katharine (Wendorff) Guither, 1942, Quincy, Ill., Katherine and her husband, Francis are great-grandparents for the first time. Francis' great-grandson arrived in January 2007, Lucas. Katharine's great-grandchildren (twins) Katherine and Michael were born in July.
Warren Reckmeyer, 1949, Mt. Morris, Ill., On November 4, 2007, Richard Preis ('51) gave his program on the Gospel of Love according to Broadway. Carol Reckmeyer ('49) accompanied him. The audience included 18 Carthaginians. Everybody had a great time.
F. Robert Humburg, 1949, Placentia, Cal., September 24, 2007. After graduating from Carthage, Bob went on to receive a Master's Degree in Biochemistry at the Unversity of Iowa. He worked in that field in the labs of Swift and Co. for over 18 years, and then switched careers and was a Sales Manager for Prudential Insurance for another 18 years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie (Pizarro) Humburg, '49; sons, Scott and Mark, daughter Lori Estes, and 9 grandchildren.
Peter R. Rasmussen, 1950, Lanark, Ill., January 29, 2008. Peter graduated from Woodstock Community High School in 1946. Peter later received his Bachelors Degree from Carthage College in Carthage, Illinois and his Master's Degree of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Chicago. Peter married Marian Crofton on August 12,1951 in Lanark. Peter and Marian were called to serve as Missionaries to Japan for forty years. They loved the people and culture of Japan. While they were in Japan, they dedicated themselves to communities in Nagasake prefecture, Kyoto and Takamatsu. Peter enjoyed participating in political debate and was a member of the League of Women Voters. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark. He enjoyed reading, and writing letters to friends and family. Peter loved spending time with his family and was known for his playful humor. He loved to have fun. Peter will be dearly missed by his wife, Marian; daughters, Fern (Robert) Fiesthumel of Fort Collins, Colo., Rebecca (Stephen) Lane of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Kristina (Koichi) Hidaka of Miyazaki, Japan; sons, Samuel (Helen) Rasmussen of Los Altos, Calif., and Jonathan (Michi) Rasmussen of Okinawa, Japan; 20 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
Wally Daniels, 1951, Maple City, Mich., and Maureen (Hill) '53 have been married for 58 years and are still going strong.
Dr. Roger K. Hansen, 1952, Rockford, Ill., Roger is volunteering at the Swedish American Hospital, working at the inventory desk. He is also struggling with the effects of having a stroke and having his wife, Milicent at a nursing home with Alzheimer's. Roger loves being back from California to be near his children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter in Rockford, Illinois.

Robert L. Pettis, 1952, Green Valley, Ariz., passed away on November 27, 2007. He was a native of Deerfield, Ill., and a retired field sales manager for Amoco Corp. He is survived by his wife, Sharon.
Rev. Andrew E. Carlsson, 1957, Kane, Pa., Andy and Donna Carlsson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family reunion of their five children, 17 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Andy continues on the faculty of the National Association of Lutheran Interim Pastors (NALIP) which he co-founded in 1994 at Carthage. He has been teaching interim ministry at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, for the past three years.
James McClurg, 1958, Sun Prairie, Wis., Jim has been retired since 2001. He has done several interim churches and continues to play volleyball with the Milwaukee Recreation Department over 55 league. Just recently he has begun volunteering with the Madison Urban Ministries which helps men and women being released from jail and prison. In 2006 they served 600 folks who had a 60% recidivism rate compared to 70% for those who had no additional support program. Jim is certified as an AODA counselor.
Virginia (Cortright) Wheeler, 1959, Grandville, Mich., reports that the search committee on which she serves at Christ Lutheran Church, Wyoming, Mich., has chosen Steve Ott, '07, as the new youth director. "It was a thrill to recieve Steve's resume and learn he and I were alumni of Carthage and the he would now serve the same congregation I served(before my retirement) 15 years as Associate in Ministry."
Dr. and Mrs. Donald H. Piehl, 1961, New London, N.C., Don continues to support and mentor public school science teachers. He is on the board of Montgomery County Communities in Schools program, and on the board of the Montgomery County Community College Foundation. Don and his wife, Ann visited their daughters and family in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in January, where they teach in the American International School. They also went on a safari in Kenya.
Judith (DeLapp) Andrews, 1962, Quincy, Calif., became a full professor at Feather River College in December 2007; 2007 is the first year that professional titles were offered.
Pastor Bob Sullivan, 1964, Baileys Harbor, Wis., Pastor Bob Sullivan retired from full-time ministry on July 1, 2007 and moved to Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin with wife, Rita. He served parishes in Fort Atkinson, Withee, Sussex, and Two Rivers, Wisconsin and finished in Seymour, Indiana.
Albert J. Rother, 1964, Bishop, Ga., was recently honored by Rotary International for outstanding service and leadership to the Boy Scouts of America as a longtime volunteer.
Gerald Ugland, 1968, Plover, Wis., Jerry Ugland retired from employment with Wisconsin Council 40,AFSCME, AFL-C10, where he was the representative for various municipal employees in a total of 7 Wisconsin counties for 15 years. He obtained an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1993. Jerry previously had been a social worker for Washington County for 12 years, obtained a real estate broker's license in 1974 and sold real estate for four years, and worked with emotionally disturbed boys at Lutheran Children's Friend Society for 10 years. Jerry continues to live in Plover, Wisconsin.
Mark W. Behrens, 1968, Moline, Ill., is proud that his son, Bryan W. Behrens will graduate May 25, 2008, 40 years after his father.
David Sand, 1970, Marshall, Wis., David Sand passed away April 27, 2007 as a result of a car accident on his way to work. He is survived by his wife Janet (Nelson) Sand, '71. At Carthage, Dave was a member of Beta Phi Epsilon. The Squires were an imortant part of his life and he made many close friends, he would have loved the 50th reunion later this year. Dave and Janet met while at Carthage and would have been married 35 years in June 2007. He was her best friend and a wonderful guy. Dave and Janet have three grown children, Karin, Krista, and Brett, and two darling granddaughters. They recently moved back to Wisconsin.
Nancy Jedan, 1972, Cape Girardeau, Mo., passed away February 20, 2007 after a brave battle against breast cancer. She had taught marketing and management at Murray State and Southeast Missouri State Universities. She is survived by her husband, Dieter Jedan; daughters Nicole (Jedan) Aleknavicius, '96, and Noelle Stuelpner, both of Grafton, Wis., and Heather Johnson, of Jersey City, N.J.; her parents, Aleck and Rosemary Johnsen, of Rockford, Ill.; brothers David and Steven Johnsen, and sister Frances Gasbarra.
Richard E. Lange, 1972, Deerfield, Ill., Richard E. Lang is an instructor at Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy and a lecturer at Northwestern's Center for Talent Development. He is also the co-founder of "Lernen fur Alle" an educational consulting firm located in Zurich, Switzerland.
Carl Brietlow, 1972, Waterford, Wis., will retire after 36 years in education. He has been a school principal for the past 28 years at the high school, middle school, and grade school levels including the last nine years at Wilmot High School, Wilmot, Wisconsin. Carl states that a day has never gone by where he has not benefited from the education he received at Carthage.
Holly (Roth) Levine, 1975, Racine, Wis., moved in May 2007 after 26 years of living in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Her father, William Roth '50, taught at Carthage for 35 years. He retired in 1991 as Professor Emeritus of Music and Associate Vice President for Church Relations. He directed the Carthage Choir on the Illinois campus in 1960 and 1961, then in Kenosha from 1962 to 1966. He was the first choir director to take the college choir to Europe. The 70-voice choir, on two buses, spent six weeks in Europe in 1966.
Holly has three children who live in Florida. They are Mandy, Grant, and Zachary Levine. She is one of 56 Roths who have attended Carthage. She is also very happy to be back in Racine where she grew up.
Juliane Rae (Huley) Mueller, 1976, Oconomowoc, Wis., "Art, like dance, is a dialogue," explains Juliane Rae Mueller. "The artist dances to their internal rhythm and gestures creating a message of color and line. The viewer experiences color as energy, line as a universal language, and responds with their own experience. The artwork as message is complete and your dance has begun." Juliane's paintings and sculptures will be exhibited in a dynamic environment. Her latest series include didgeridoos (a traditional Aboriginal musical instrument) as sculpture. Didgeridoos have a rich history in ancient stories, representing ancestral connections and totems of community support. As an artist, interior designer, and feng shui consultant, Juliane Rae Mueller believes our environments have a commanding affect on our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. "We need to live in sunshine. We need to connect with our own stories. My art is intended to support and nurture you in your own space."
Dean Ennes, 1976, Oak Park, Ill., has been elected to the board of directors of the International Trade Association of Greater Chicago, a voluntary business association dedicated to promoting international commerce. With some 400 members, it is the largest organization of its kind in Illinois. Dean manages Ennes International, a consultancy focused on the planning and financing of infrastructure projects in developing countries. He lives in Oak Park, Illinois.
Susan Donohoe, 1977, Wauwautosa, Wis., In 2006, Susan began her own garden design business providing garden designs, intallation and maintenance for the "city size" home lot. She is also finishing an associate degree in landscape horticulture.
Scott Siegmeier, 1978, Shawano, Wis., Scott Siegmeier passed away November 16, 2007. Scott taught science at St. James Lutheran School, where he was athletic director and coached basketball and volleyball. He will be missed by all of his friends at Carthage College.
Joel Mondry, 1978, Orland Park, Ill., and his wife, Nancy (Dori) Mondry, '78, have a son, Kevin, who is a senior at Carthage. He will graduate in May. Kevin is a business and communications major. They also have a daughter, Katie, who is a sophomore at Carthage, majoring in special education. Katie's twin brother Keith attends Elim Christian Services. Keith is in their special needs autism program.
Keith Kolstad, 1981, Marinette, Wis., On May 27, 2007, Keith Kolstad graduated with a Doctor of Ministry degree from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. The title of his thesis was "Discerning God's Dreams: Clarifying a Congregation's Missional Vision Through the Art of Discernment".
Thomas Vignieri, 1983, Cambridge, Mass., Thomas Vignieri wrote a piece called "Hodie Christus Natus Est", originally recorded by the Handel and Haydn Society of Boston, which was performed in Montreal this December at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul in an arrangement for choir, organ, brass, and percussion. The concert was recorded by CBS Radio as part of their annual CBS Christmas Sing-In and broadcast across Canada on CBC Radio One and Radio Two on Christmas Day 2007.
Jamie Johnson, 1984, Madison, Wis., Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle appointed Lommen Abdo Attorney Jamie Johnson to The Governor's Judicial Advisory Council (JAC). The JAC assists the Governor in making appointments to the bench to fill mid-term vacancies at the trial and appellate court levels. The Council of ten members is comprised of lawyers from around the state and representatives from the Governor's office. The Council reviews and screens applications, selecting five to seven applicants for initial interviews. The interviews are conducted by the Council at the Capital in Madison. Following those interviews the Council recommends two to four candidates to receive a final in-person interview with Governor Doyle. The Council meets on an "as needed" basis and the members serve at the pleasure of the Governor. "I am very honored that Governor Doyle asked me to serve on the Judicial Advisory Council," Johnson said. "I look forward to assisting him in the very important task of selecting the most qualified and competent judges to serve Wisconsin citizens." Johnson is a trial lawyer and shareholder with Lommen, Abdo, Cole, King & Stageberg, P.A. a midwest-based firm with offices in Hudson, Wis., Minneapolis and New York City.
Neal Neybert, 1986, Nashua, N.H., Feb 14, 2008. Mr. Neybert was born Aug. 29, 1964, and was raised in Hoffman Estates, Ill. He was a member of the first pledge class of Phi Kappa Sigma. He received his MBA from DePaul University. He is survived by his wife, Beth (Boyd) Neybert, '86.
David L. Maack, CEM, CPM, 1988, Racine, Wis., received UW-Parkside's Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service award at their annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on January 25,2008. David is the Racine County Emergency Management Coordinator and and he is serving his fourth term as a Racine alderman. He chairs both the Leadership Racine and the Animal Crackers Jazz Series boards of directors.
Tony Guinn, 1989, Macomb, Ill., Tony Guinn is the head women's soccer coach at Western Illinois University. Tony was named Summit League coach of the year after his team finished 16-3-1 and won the conference title.
Peggy (Granger) Schapals, 1990, Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and husband Andrew announce the birth of their daugher, Sara Charlotte, on February 6, 2008. Sara joins her siblings, Nick (16), Kyle (12), Michael (9) and Elle (6).
Eric Mathisen, 1992, Chicago, has joined the national labor and employment law specialty firm Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. He will bring his nationally recognized expertise on employee benefits law and litigation to the firm's national benefits practice group, which now will number 20 attorneys. Mr. Mathisen previously served in the law firm of Hoeppner Wagner & Evans LLP.
Lynn (Mathson) Parks, 1993, Kenosha, Wis., has taught in the Kenosha Unified School District for 15 years. She currently teaches 8th grade Social Studies at Bullen Middle School. For the past 10 years, she has been an adjunct instructor at Carthage and has taught Education courses in the night program. She earned her Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Gifted and Talented Education in 1997 from Carthage. She also serves on the Education Department's Advisory Board.
Thomas A. Kemp, 1995, Eau Claire, Wis., Dr. Kemp has been promoted to Associate Professor of Economics with tenure at UW-Eau Claire. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the Colorado State University in Fort Collins. He is also a councilman for the city of Eau Claire.
Amy (Savaglio) Micel, 1997, Pleasant Prairie, Wis., Emma Katherine Miceli was born March 29, 2007. She joins her sister, Lauren (6) and brother Michael (5).

Amy is a Program Manager for Healthcare and Government.
Ralph Ten Bruin, 1997, Johnsburg, Ill., and wife Jan announce the birth of their daughter Madeline (Maddie) Elise Ten Bruin on May 21, 2007. In August 2007, Ralph was promoted to Commodity manager and in January 2008 celebrated his 10th anniversary at Weber-Stephen.

Lisa Lieske, 2000, Milwaukee, Lisa Lieske married Joe Stribl on September 14, 2007 at Lake Park Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. The wedding party included Sheryl Spensley ('00), and Jenelle Montague ('02). Kelly (Flemming '00) Schmitt was a personal attendant and Sara (Vavra '00) Suder read scripture at the wedding. The wedding reception was held at the Milwaukee County Zoo.
Ariana Miller, 2000, Altamonte Springs, Fla., Ariana Miller married Michael Detert on April 28, 2007 in Celebration, Florida. The wedding party included Melissa Lowe, '00, Jamie Piette, '00, and Beth Modzeleski (Meier), '00. Ariana is a Child and Family Counselor for Seminole Community Mental Health Center.
Terry Filippis, 2000, Terry and Courtney Filippis announce the birth of their second son Bradley George Filippis on April 16, 2007.
Melissa (Harris) Davidson, 2000, Racine, Wis., and husband Tony are delighted to announce the birth of their son, Blake Jay Davidson. He was born January 28th, 2008 in Racine, Wisconsin. He weighed 8 lbs 8 oz and was 20" long.

Tim and Nikki are happily expecting their first child in early August.
Simon Andrew Blankenbaker, 2001, Galena, Ill., won the primary for Jo Daviess County Board seat in District 11 and there is no opponent at this time in the general election. He also won his precinct committeeman seat and re-election as vice chairman of the Jo Daviess County Republican Central Committee. He has been vice chairman since 2004.

Jason Froehner, 2001, Elwood, Ill., left PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in August 2007 as an Audit Manager to join UGN, Inc as their Corporate Controller. UGN, Inc. manufactures automotive soundproofing and is a $230 million dollar company.
Nicole Reischel Shibata, 2003, Apple Valley, Minn., Nicole and Chris Shibata are proud to announce the birth of their triplet daughters, born June 28, 2007 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Guinevere Shinobu, Samantha Hanaka, and Chloe Hazue are home from the NICU and are a healthy 10 lbs. Each had an average weigh of 1 lb 10 oz at birth and were born at 25 weeks. Mom, Dad, and babies are all doing stellar!

The couple reside in Kenosha.
Lindsay (Davidson) Ebersole, 2005, Chadwick, Ill., Lindsay and her husband were blessed with a baby girl, Lillian Rae, January 17. Lindsay will receive a Master's in curriculum and instruction from NOVA Southeastern University in August 2008.
Perla (Ordonez) Jones, 2005, Evanston, Ill., Perla Ordonez was joined in marriage to Christopher Jones January 24, 2007 in Chicago. They are also pleased to announce the birth of a daughter, Alexandra Sophia Jones, born on September 4, 2007 in Evanston.

Andy Steenrod, 2006, Racine, Wis., and Kelli (Klepel) Steenrod, '06 were marrried on August 25, 2007 in the A.F. Siebert Chapel at Carthage. The wedding party included Craig Klepel, '97, Stacey (Klepel) Kiefer, '00, Chris Steenrod, '09, Casey Griffiths, '06, Kirby Oren, '06 and Lauren Pils, '07. Pastor Jean (Woods) Pagliaro, '03, officiated the event, Prof. Gregory Berg was the organist, Women's Swim Coach Sue Nutty was a reader and Matt Patzke,'12 was an usher. More than 60 Carthage students and alumni attended the ceremony and following reception at the Racine Marriott. Kelli is the assistant website manager at Adolph Kiefer & Associates in Zion, Ill. and Andy is a production planner at Waukesha Electric Systems in Waukesha, Wis. The couple honeymooned in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
Chad Langhoff, 2006, Kenosha, Wis., married Amber Sharp,'06 on February 2, 2008. The ceremony took place at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Kenosha. Harvard Stephens, Dean of Siebert Chapel, Carthage College, presided over the ceremony. Members of the wedding party included: Maid of Honor, Amanda Rogers, '06; Groomsman, Aaron Steckman, '07; Ushers, Matt Rome, '07, Andy Rathje, '07, Charlie Staniger, '07 and Anthony "Chunk" Gullo, '07. Music by Lauren Neverman, '06, Amanda Rogers, '06 and Aaron Steckman, '07. For their honeymoon, the couple enjoyed a cruise to the Bahamas. Chad is a graphic designer for Carthage. Amber works for Jockey International as a web designer at Jockey.com.
