Exhibits at the H.F. Johnson Gallery of Art

Art Faculty Exhibition: "Dialogue, Spectacle, and Fabrications"
April 6-May 15
Featuring the works of Diane Levesque, Kimberly Greene, Lisa Bigalke, Ross Moreno, Connie Wolfe, Eric Johnson, Jeremy Plunkett, Beth Shadur, Melanie Kehoss, and Professor Emeritus Ed Kalke, this exhibition demonstrates the expansive range of media, styles, techniques, and artistic philosophies of the art faculty.

An opening reception was held April 8.

All established professional artists with numerous awards and highly accomplished exhibition records, the art faculty at Carthage College is a marvelous mixture of distinguished artists who manage to balance their dedication to teaching art with their life-long commitment to exploring, creating and exhibiting their own work. Student work featured in Racine's Northern Lights Gallery

Carthage Stars: Carthage College Student Art Exhibition
Feb. 27 - March 7, 2010
Four Carthage students had their work displayed at Northern Lights Gallery, 423 Main St., in Racine Feb. 27-March 7.

The show was curated by Carthage studio art major Stacey Rosenwinkel, '10, who works as a gallery assistant at the gallery.

Faculty News & Achievements

Publication news
Carolyn Hudson, assistant professor of art, had several papers accepted for conferences or published recently: Her paper "Art and Communication in 2009" was accepted at the International Conference on the Arts in Society in Venice, Italy. Her paper "Obama's Election and the End of Postmodernism" was published in the refereed 2009 International Journal of the Humanities. She also had a paper accepted at the International Conference on New Directions in the Humanities in Beijing, China. She recently attended the South Central Conference on Christianity and Literature in New Orleans.



Professor featured in new book
Diane Levesque, director of the H.F. Johnson Gallery of Art at Carthage and an assistant art professor, created the cover art for the new comic book "Mother Goosed: Twisted Rhymes for Modern Times"(Southport Press).

The book is a collection of artist interpretations of Mother Goose rhymes. There are a limited number of copies available. The foreword was written by Florence Parry Heide.

 

Exhibition News

Lisa Bigalke, adjunct professor of art, was featured in a solo exhibition in Las Vegas at the City of Las Vegas Galleries. She was asked if her work could be featured in a commercial for Las Vegas.

Ross Moreno, adjunct professor of art, had his work featured in "Latent Tendencies — Cabinet of Curiosities" in March 2010, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, in Chicago. His work will be featured in the ECT Performance Festival in April 2010 at the Mill Theater, Chicago; "Art of Failure" in May 2010 at No Coast Gallery; "Exit Light" in May 2010 at the Reference Gallery in Richmond, Va.; and "Super Redux: I.E. Group Show" in September 2010 at the Igal Gallery in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Kimberly Greene, assistant professor of art, will be featured in "Under the Influence of Poseidon" at the Meadows Gallery, The University of Texas, Tyler, Tex.; "Dialogue, Spectacle and Fabrication: Art Faculty Exhibition" at the H.F. Johnson Gallery of Art, Carthage College, Kenosha, Wis.; "Atmosphere" in the James Oliver Gallery in Philadelphia; and "Atmosphere" in the Haydon Art Center in Lincoln, Neb.

Connie Wolfe, adjunct professor of art, was an elected member of the Board of Directors, Mid America Printmaking Council and the Journal Advisory Committee, Mid America Printmaking Council Journal. Her work was included in Midwest Printmakers: Group Invitational Exhibition at the The Miller Art Museum in Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; Parkside National Small Print Exhibition in the Communication Arts Gallery, University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Kenosha, Wis.; Mezzotint: The Illuminated Mark Portfolio Exhibition; The Southern Graphics Council Conference, Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, Penn.; Dialogue, Spectacle, and Fabrications: Art Faculty Exhibition at the H.F. Johnson Gallery of Art, Carthage College, Kenosha, Wis.
