The 2,000-square-foot Jon Swift Sports Medicine Center is located within the N.E. Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center (TARC). Built in 2001, this facility is home to the athletic training staff of Carthage College. The sports medicine center and athletic training room provide a superior learning environment for the athletic training students by allowing them to practice their technical skills on the injured athletic population. This center consists of three offices, a hydrotherapy room, a rehabilitation center, an injury evaluation area, and a section for taping.

This section of the Jon Swift Sports Medicine Center consists of eight treatment tables, some of which have curtains for private examinations. Therapeutic modalities available include a variety of thermal modalities, as well as therapeutic ultrasound, electrical stimulation, paraffin bath, biofeedback, and Saunders cervical traction.

A new rehabilitation center opened in 2009 with the renovation of the Tarble Arena. The center has a variety of equipment including a versatile cable column weight machine, a stationary exercise bike, the TruStretch system, a power block weight unit, My3 Power Plate, JumpTrainer, TRX and numerous other proprioceptive devices.

We offer six taping tables fully stocked with taping and wound care supplies. Athletes can have their wounds cleaned and covered, along with any preventative taping or wrapping they need.

The hydrotherapy area has its own separate area allowing for noise control while not compromising supervision issues. Three whirlpools, an ice machine, hydrocollator, and storage of our hydration supplies are housed in this area.

The Jon Swift Sports Medicine center is located on the first floor of the TARC adjacent to our locker rooms. This allows quick access to the athletic training room prior to practice or competition. The athletic training room lies 30 feet away from the outside door that leads to Art Keller Field.

The satellite TARC Exercise Physiology Lab/Rehabilitation Room allows the athletic trainer the privacy for one-on-one therapy. A wide range of rehabilitation equipment is available.

A 5,000-square-foot fitness center within TARC is used by faculty, students and student-athletes.

TARC also features a 40-meter, 16-lane swimming pool.
