Tyler Wollberg, 2nd at CCIW ChampionshipThe Carthage College men’s golf team (79-19) finished second at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men’s Golf Championship. The first two rounds were played on Friday-Saturday, April 18-19 at the Bolingbrook Golf Course in Bolingbrook, Ill. Rounds three and four were played on Friday-Saturday, May 2-3 at the Cantigny Golf Course in Wheaton, Ill.
Illinois Wesleyan won its 11th league championship with a 294-296-312-307-1209 team score, 17 strokes ahead of second-place Carthage at 304-287-319-316-1226. Wheaton College (Ill.) was third at 305-305-317-317-1244, followed by Millikin University fourth at 303-298-332-321-1254, North Central College fifth at 326-308-331-324-1289, Elmhurst College sixth at 319-326-334-322-1301, North Park University seventh at 312-318-336-337-1303 and Augustana College (Ill.) eighth at 324-317-356-334-1331.
Illinois Wesleyan University’s Chris Green at 72-74-73-75-294 shared the lead with Carthage’s Tyler Wollberg (Jr., Mundelein, Ill., team-leading 73.3 season average) at 74-69-75-76-294, but Green won a four-hole, sudden-death playoff to claim medalist honors. Wollberg earned All-CCIW honors, along with teammate Matt Carr (Jr., Galesburg, Ill., 76.9), who finished fifth at 74-70-81-78-303. Dave Mikolaitis (Sr., Algonquin, Ill./Woodstock-Marian Central Catholic, 80.3) was 13th at 78-74-82-81-315, Anthony Milano (So., Geneva, Ill., 80.1) tied for 14th at 78-74-83-81-316, and Tim Gannon (Jr., Darien, Ill./Lombard-Montini, 78.5) finished 19th with an 80-76-81-82-319.
