Jason is a big, strong left-handed hatter, and we’re looking to him to drive in some runs…he’s got a chance to really help us in the middle of the order…a very good ball player, and he could also possibly help us as a pitcher.

High School:  Three-year All-North Suburban Conference honoree…named Daily Herald all-area his junior and senior years…coached by Jay Czarnecki…played basketball his freshman and sophomore years and football as a freshman…four-year honor student.

Boe Baitinger

Boe is just a great athlete…as he goes, we go…a leadoff hitter who steals bases and  a very good outfielder who turns doubles into outs…he could be a bit more consistent at the plate, but he’s one of our leaders.

2007:  Named American Baseball Coaches Association second-team All-Central Region and second-team All-CCIW…played in 44-of-50 games and made 44 starts in centerfield…batted .335 with 42 runs scored, 12 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 33 RBI and 26-of-31 stolen bases…had an 11-game hitting streak between March 13 and April 17…tied a Carthage game record with six hits against North Central on April 1…named to the Central Regional all-tournament team.

2006:  Named American Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-Central Region and first-team All-CCIW…started all 43 in centerfield…ranked 12th among CCIW batting leaders with a .379 average, 53 runs scored, 10 doubles and 27 stolen bases in 30 attempts…fell two stolen bases short of tying a Carthage season record…tied a Carthage game record with four stolen bases versus North Park on April 23…had a team-leading 21 multiple-hit games, including six three-hit games and two four-hit games…put together an 11-game hitting streak from April 14 to April 29…committed only two errors for a .982 fielding percentage.

2005:  Attended Chaffey College, a two-year school in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., his freshman year and played baseball…named honorable mention All-Foothill Conference with a .380 batting average and 18 stolen base.

High School:  Named second-team All-Fox Valley Association his senior year…coached by Dan Heinritz…played football and named honorable mention all-conference as a senior

We think a lot Kevin as a pitcher and being a lefty is certainly a plus…he showed some flashes last year of being very tough to hit…we need him to keep improving, but he will pitch for us this year.

Steve Coughlin

Steve is one of our senior outfielders…he had kind of an up-and-down year in 2007 after having a very good sophomore season…we need him to return to form and drive the ball for us.

Scott Danly

Scott has been a little unlucky with an elbow injury…he has shown tremendous upside, and he can really throw the ball…his rehab is going well…it’ll be tough for him to sit out the 2008 season, but he still has a very bright future at Carthage.

Joe is a versatile guy, and we just need to figure out where we’re going to use him…he can run like a deer, and he can play all over the infield or the outfield…I think he’s going to be a valuable part of this program for years to come.

Tony has had a tough road with illness and injuries, but he did some really nice things in 2007 in a shared role at second base…this year, it’s his position to lose, and you’d like to think he can take the job and run with it…with his ability to steal bases, hitting at the top of the order with Boe Baitinger would really give us a nice, one-two punch.

2006:  Played in 35-of-43 games and made 24 starts, 21 at second base and one each in left and rightfield…batted .309 in 81 at bats with 11 stolen bases in 13 attempts.

2005:  Injured and did not play his sophomore year.

High School:  Named Illinois Baseball Coaches Association first-team all-state, Chicago Tribune second-team all-state and Chicago Sun-Times honorable mention all-state his senior year…a three-year All-Central Suburban League honoree…stole 52 bases in 54 attempts his senior year, second all-time on the Illinois High School Association single-season list…coached by Brown Lee…three-year member of the football team.

Andy is a left-hander and senior who’s been around and worked very hard…we’re going to need big things from him in 2008 if we’re going to be successful…it’s kind of his time to step up.

David Hermes

David had a good year in 2007 and hit for high average…we’d like to see him drive the ball some more, but we just need more of the same from him…one of the hardest workers on the team, and that work is going to pay off this year.

Mike Hughes

Mike did very well in 2007, and he’s going to be one of the main guys behind the plate this year…he has a very good arm, and he’s a good defensive catcher…we also think he’s ready to step up and be an offensive force.

2007:  Named first-team All-CCIW…played in 44-of-50 games and made 42 starts, 26 at catcher and 16 as the designated hitter…batted .338 with 13 doubles, three home runs and 28 RBI…had 19 multiple-hit games, including a three-hit game against North Central on April 1…drove in three runs against Augustana (Ill.) on May 10 in the first round of the CCIW Baseball Tournament…compiled a 10-game hitting streak between March 31 and April 15.

2006:  Played in nine games and made two starts at catcher…batted .364 in 11 at bats.

High School:  Named Chicago Tribune third-team all-state his senior year, as well as Daily Herald all-area, Lakeland News “player of the year” and All-North Suburban League…Daily Herald all-area and honorable mention all-conference as a junior…coached by Howard Conkling…four-year member of the football team…Round Lake High School “athlete of the year” as a senior…honor student.

Jacob Husing

Jacob has a done a great job for three years…he’s the leader of our pitching staff, and he should be one of the top pitchers in the country…all we need from him is to stay consistent and keep doing what he’s already done.

2007:  Named American Baseball Coaches Association third-team All-Central Region and second-team All-CCIW…went 8-4 with one save, a 3.32 earned run average, six complete games, 7.96 strikeouts per nine innings and 2.12 walks per nine innings…collected a save against Augustana (Ill.) in the regional-championship game…opponents batted .242 against him…named CCIW “Pitcher of the Week” on March 12

2006:  Named second-team All-CCIW…appeared in 10 games and made nine starts…compiled a 6-2 record with four complete games and a 2.65 earned run average…opponents batted .268 against him.

2005:  Appeared in 11 games and made one start…went 2-2 with a team-high four saves (tied for 2
nd in the CCIW) and a 1.82 earned run average over 24.2 innings pitched…collected a save at Illinois Wesleyan on April 24 with three-straight called strikeouts against the heart of the Titan batting order…averaged 8.8 strikeouts per nine innings and walked only 1.8 batters per nine innings.

High School:  His high school did not sponsor varsity baseball…named to the American Legion Upper Peninsula All-Star team both his junior and senior years…four-year member of the football team and named both honorable mention all-state and All-Mid-Peninsula Conference as a senior…four-year member of the basketball team…Iron Mountain Honor Society member, four-year honor student and graduated with honors.

Bryan Kieffer

Bryan had a good freshman year, and he’s going to get the ball more in 2008…a hard-working kid who’s already improved a lot…his best years are still ahead of him.

2007:  Appeared in seven games and made five starts with a 2-0 record and a 3.45 earned run average…twirled a three-hit shutout over seven innings to defeat Concordia (Wis.) on March 12…defeated Lakeland on April 22.

High School:  Named Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel second-team all-state his senior year, as well as All-Classic 8 Conference and all-area…his junior-year team reached the sectional finals…coached by Tim O’Driscoll…four-year member of the football team and one year in track and field.

Chris Krepline

Chris will be our number-two starting pitcher in 2008…he had a very good year in 2007, a breakthrough year, and he followed that up with a great summer in the Northern League… it’ll be fun to see how far he can go this year…he’s gotten so much better since he’s been here…if he continues to improve like that, he could join Jacob Husing as one of the top pitchers in the country.

2007:  Named American Baseball Coaches Association second-team All-Central Region and first-team All-CCIW…appeared in 12 games, all in starting assignments, and went 7-2 with a 2.81 earned run average, six complete games, 9.00 strikeouts per nine innings and 3.15 walks per nine innings…opponents batted .267 against him…named to the Central Regional all-tournament team…went 6-3 with a 2.77 earned run average for the summer 2007 Green Bay Bullfrogs in the Northern League.

2006:  Appeared in eight games, all in starting assignments…compiled a 4-1 record with a 2.81 earned run average and 40 strikeouts in 41.6 innings pitched.

Brett is an interesting guy, because he can hit and pitch…we haven’t quite figured out which direction to go with him. but he has shown signs of being a pretty good player.

Zak Mueller

Zak is a big first baseman…he can hit, and he has good power…he needs to work on his defense a little bit.

Chris had surgery last year, but he threw really well in the fall…we know he can throw pretty hard, so now it’s just a matter of him becoming more consistent in the strike zone…we’re kind of looking for big things from Chris in 2008.

Ben Parlier

Ben is a very good defensive outfielder who might just hit enough to be part of that mix…he really helped us last year as a pinch runner and defensive replacement.

Personal:  Exercise and sport science major…named to the spring 2007 Carthage athletic director’s honor roll…born April 11, 1987.

Garry Paskiewicz

Garry is a freshman outfielder…with five returning seniors in the outfield, Garry will have a tough time finding playing time in 2008, but we think he’s going to be a heck of a hitter at the college level.

We’re very excited about Mario…we think he’s a pitcher who can make an immediate impact…he knows how to pitch, he can throw three different pitches for strikes, and he has a very bright future at Carthage.

Mike is a freshman outfielder and leadoff-type guy…with this year’s senior-laden outfield, it’ll be tough for him this year, but he has a chance to contribute to this year’s team…he brings some good  things with him, like a strong arm, very good defense and a left-handed bat.

High School:  Named All-North Suburban League and Pioneer Press all-area his senior year on a regional-championship team…all-area his junior year, also on a regional-championship team…his sophomore-year squad reached the sectional finals…coached by Todd Parola…two-year starter on the football team and set a school record his senior year with a 96-yard kick return…honor student.

Tony Rdzok

Tony runs well, and he’s a very good hitter…while he’ll battle it out this year with the five senior outfielders, he’s going to be a very good player at Carthage.

Corey Richardson

Corey did a lot for us in 2007 as both a relief pitcher and an outfielder…he pitched better than his statistics show…he has a very strong arm and a lot of athletic ability…we just need to figure out where best to use him.

2007:  Appeared in 11 games as a relief pitcher and went 1-1 with two saves and a 5.65 earned run average over 14.1 innings pitched…winning pitcher against Augustana (Ill.) on May 12 in the championship game of the CCIW Baseball Tournament…collected saves against Coe on March 10 and Webster on May 17 at the Central Region Championship…made appearances in leftfield against Lakeland on April 22 and Millikin on April 29.

High School:  Coached by Bruce Erickson.

Zak Risdon

Zak is a freshman infielder who needs to get stronger, but he has decent hands and  pretty good defensive skills.

Seth had a big year for us in 2006 when Jose Alba was injured…he’s a very good infielder and one of our better hitters…with Tyler Yapp graduating, third base could be Seth’s way of breaking into the lineup.

2006:  Played in 27-of-43 games and made 21 starts, 19 at shortstop and two as the designated hitter…batted .321 in 78 at bats.

2005:  Played on the junior varsity team.

High School:  Four-year member of the baseball team and batted .366 his senior year…coached by Dan Colucci…four-year member of the football team…honor student.

Personal:  Business administration major…named to the spring 2007 Carthage athletic director’s honor roll…born Jan. 30, 1986.

Trace Ruffie

Trace had a heck of a freshman year, and he pitched in some big games…he’s still getting better, but that said, he’ll probably be our third starting pitcher and a lot more is going to fall on his shoulders.

2007:  Appeared in seven games and made five starts with a 4-1 record, one save, a team-leading 2.04 earned run average, three complete games and just 1.36 walks per nine innings…opponents batted just .205 against him…started conference games against Wheaton (Ill.) on April 16 and Elmhurst on April 24…starting and winning pitcher against Augustana (Ill.) on May 19 in the championship game of the Central Region championship…pitched three scoreless innings of relief against SUNY-Cortland on May 27 at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship…earned a save against North Park on May 6 and named CCIW “Pitcher of the Week” on May 8…went 11-2 for the summer 2007 Arlington Heights American Legion team.

High School:  His junior-year team won a Mid-Suburban League East title…coached by Bob Huber…two-year member of the cross country team…National Honor Society member and four-year honor student.

Personal:  Double major in business administration and marketing…named to the fall 2006 Carthage dean’s list…born March 9, 1988.

Chris Shannon

Chris is one of five senior outfielders…at times last year, he was very good…he runs well, and he has a knack for getting on base…it’s going to be interesting to see how our outfield situation shakes out.

2006:  Played in 22 games, mostly as a pinch-runner…made six starts, five in rightfield and one in leftfield…batted .300 in 30 at bats.

2005:  Attended Illinois State University his freshman year…red-shirted on the baseball team.

High School:  Named All-Mid-Suburban League West his senior year…ranked fifth all-time on the Conant High School stolen bases list…coached by Mike Fritz…four-year member of the football team and earned all-conference honors as a senior.

Personal:  Double major in education and marketing…born Nov. 2, 1985.

Along with Mike Hughes, Mark is going to handle a lot of the catching duties…he’s worked hard for two years, he’s got a very strong arm, and he can drive the ball…this could be a breakthrough year for Mark.

Trevor Whately

Trevor is a younger outfielder who continues to get better…he had a real good summer, and he showed us during fall practice that he’s a lot closer to playing at the college level than he was last year.
