• Carthage Men's Golf Ties for Ninth at Weather-Shortened Gustavus Adolphus Tournament

    The Carthage College men’s golf team (27-12-2) tied for ninth at place at the Sunday, Oct. 11 Gustavus Adolphus College “Twin Cities Classic” at The Links at North Fork in Ramsey, Minn.  The Gustavus Adolphus event, originally scheduled for three days and 54 holes, was shortened to a one-day tournament due to snow and cold in upper-Minnesota.  St. John’s University (Minn.) won the 20-team tournament with a 289 team score, four strokes ahead of second-place Illinois Wesleyan University at 291.  Concordia University (St. Paul) was third at 293, followed by St. Cloud State University tied for fourth with the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) at 294 each, Nebraska Wesleyan University tied for sixth with the University of Manito at 296 each, Bethel University eighth at 298, Carthage tied for ninth with Concordia College (Minn.) at 300 each, Gustavus Adolphus tied for 11th with Wartburg College at 302 each, Central College 13th at 305, Luther College 14th at 307, Macalester College tied for 15th with the Gustavus Adolphus junior varsity team at 310 each, St. Olaf College 17th at 312, Wisconsin-Eau Claire 18th at 313, Loras College 19th at 315 and Augsburg College 20th with a 320 mark.

    Carthage’s Donnie Langland (Fr., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) tied for 11th place with a 72.  Kyle Bahnick (Fr., Inverness, Ill./Palatine-Fremd) tied for 20th at 74, Bobby O’Neill (Jr., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way East) and Billy Stone (So., Libertyville, Ill.) tied for 54th at 77 each, and Ben Schroeder (Fr., Ivanhoe, Ill./Mundelein) tied for 87th place with an 80.

  • Carthage Junior Varsity Men's Golf Team Sixth at Oct. 4-5 MSOE Invitational

    The Carthage junior varsity team finished sixth at the Oct. 4-5 Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational at the Grand Geneva Golf Resort in Lake Geneva, Wis.  Edgewood College won the 14-team event with a 307-311-618 team score, two strokes ahead of Benedictine University (Ill.) at 309-311-620.  Luther College at 313-212-625 was tied for third with the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 314-311-625, followed by Aurora University fifth at 314-313-637, Carthage sixth at 320-325-645, North Park University seventh at 326-325-651, Webster University eighth at 333-329-662, Lakeland College ninth at 343-323-666, the MSOE junior varsity team 10th at 339-339-678, Wisconsin Lutheran College 11th at 339-343-682, Marian University 12th at 353-337-690, Concordia University (Wis.) 13th at 347-360-707 and Rockford College 14th with a 366-368-734 mark. 

    Carthage’s Kyle Bahnick (Fr., Inverness, Ill./Palatine-Fremd) took individual honors with a 73-77-150.  Nick Vranes (Jr., Greendale, Wis.) at 79-84-163 and Brendon Jones (So., St. Charles, Ill./West Chicago) at 81-82-163 were tied for 29th place, Andrew McCarty (Jr., Geneva, Ill.) tied for 42nd place at 87-82-169, and Joe Torasco (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) was tied for 70th place at 99-89-188.
