The Carthage Athletic Endowment Program
Each of the 24 intercollegiate athletic programs at Carthage has an endowment fund to provide each team with extra support. The athletic endowment funds are managed in accordance with the College investment policies. The College investment objective is to preserve and grow the value of the endowed fund over time. Any growth in the fund, beyond a small percentage that is placed in the team’s discretionary account, is added to the principal of the fund. In January of each year, the teams use the extra funding for special travel (fall, winter, spring or summer break trips) or for the purchase of extra equipment or uniforms.

To have an endowment named for a person, the endowment’s initial donation must be a minimum of $10,000. In addition, to the endowment naming rights, there will also be an award in honor of the donor that is given to an outstanding student/athlete within that sport. A display is located in the Tarble Athletic & Recreation Center Office suite, which highlights the outstanding athlete and donor. An example of a named endowment is the women’s volleyball program. Erin Calteux, a former volleyball player, died in a tragic car accident in January of 2005. Her parents, Dave and Jean, started the endowment in memory of Erin and to support the women’s volleyball program with a donation over $10,000. Each year, a women’s volleyball player is chosen to receive the Erin Calteux “Most Inspirational Award”.
