Christopher Newport

The Red Men lost a 12-4 decision to the Captains on May 24, 2002, in the first round of the 2002 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship in Grand Chute, Wis. The Red Men had a 3-1 lead going into the seventh inning before Christopher Newport scored 11 times in a half-inning that lasted 56 minutes.

The Red Men swept a March 16, 2007 doubleheader from Golden Knights in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Carthage played home doubleheaders against the Falcons in both 1983 and 1986. The Red Men swept a March 16, 2006 doubleheader from the Falcons in Port Charlotte, Fla., and split a March 12, 2007 twinbill, also in Port Charlotte.

Concordia Seminary

Carthage played the Preachers six times between 1957 and 1960. Concordia Seminary, now located in St. Louis, Mo., was located in Springfield, Ill., at the time.

Cornell College

Carthage defeated Cornell, 10-2, on March 25, 2000, at the Fontbonne College Tournament in St. Louis, Mo.

Culver-Stockton

The series with Culver-Stockton began with a 17-1 Carthage loss on May 10, 1911, in Canton, Mo., when Culver-Stockton was known as Christian University. The school changed its name in 1919. The series continued on a regular basis until Carthage moved to Wisconsin. The last game in the series took place on April 25, 1961.

Dallas

Carthage played the University of Dallas 14 times between 1967 and 1981 on Carthage spring trips to Texas.

Dallas Baptist

Carthage played three doubleheaders with the Patriots between 1971 and 1977 on Carthage spring trips to Texas. The last time the two schools met was on April 4, 1980, in a scheduled tripleheader. Dallas Baptist won the first game (score not available), but Carthage pitcher Gordy Zastrow twirled a 1-0 no-hitter in the second game. The third game was canceled.

Dana

The Red Men won a game and tied another with the Vikings on a 1999 spring trip to Panama City, Fla. Carthage defeated Dana, 6-2, on March 12, 2000, the Red Men swept four games from the Vikings on a 2003 spring trip, all in Panama City, Fla., and Carthage won a 7-6 decision on March 14, 2004 in Port Charlotte, Fla.

DePauw

Carthage defeated the Tigers, 8-6, on March 21, 2005 in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Earlham

The Red Men played the Hustlin' Quakers three times on a 1990 spring trip to Panama City, Fla., and the two teams split a March 20, 1995 twinbill, also in Panama City.

East Central

The Red Men played consecutive doubleheaders against the Tigers on March 30-31, 1984, in Ada, Okla.

Eastern Connecticut State

Carthage has won two games over Eastern Connecticut State at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, winning a 12-6 loser’s bracket game on May 26, 1995, in Salem, Va., and winning a 15-4 first-round decision on May 25, 2007 in Grand Chute, Wis.

Eastern Illinois

Carthage played host to Eastern Illinois University in an April 25, 1964 doubleheader at Annie Reyer Field in Carthage, Ill. In the opener, the Panthers defeated the Red Men, 11-1, and the winning pitcher was Marty Pattin, an NAIA All-American that year and the national strikeout leader. Pattin struck out 19 Red Men and walked one in that game. Carthage lost to Pattin again in 1965, 16-1. In June 1965, Pattin became a seventh-round draft pick of the California Angels and had a 13-year career in Major League Baseball. Carthage won the second game, 1-0, to stop Eastern Illinois’ 15-game winning streak. The Red Men opened the 1965 season with a three-game set in Charleston, Ill.

Edgewood

Carthage swept a May 1, 1998 twinbill from Edgewood.

Elmhurst

The series with the Bluejays began with an April 23, 1949 College Conference of Illinois doubleheader in Elmhurst, Ill.

Emory

Emory defeated Carthage, 14-4, on May 19, 2003 in the championship round of the NCAA Division III Central Regional Baseball Championship in Clinton, Miss.

Endicott

Carthage defeated the Gulls, 8-2, on March 21, 2004 in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Eureka

Carthage and the Red Devils first hooked up with a home-and-home series in the 1921 season. The two teams also played home-and-home sets in 1953, 1954 and 1955. The last game in the Carthage-Eureka series was in Panama City, Fla., on March 15, 1994, a 6-2 Carthage win.

Fontbonne

The Red Men eliminated the Griffins, 17-3, from the 1998 NCAA Division III Central Regional in Kenosha, Wis. The second meeting, on March 27, 1999, at the Fontbonne College Tournament, resulted in an 11-1 Carthage win. Carthage defeated the Griffins, 13-8, on March 26, 2000, also at the Fontbonne Tournament. The Red Men defeated the Griffins, 13-2, on May 16, 2003 in a loser’s bracket game of the NCAA Division III Central Regional Baseball Championship in Clinton, Miss.

Frostburg State

Carthage swept a doubleheader from Bobcats on March 20, 2005 in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Grand View

Carthage opened the 1994 season with a 7-4 win over the Vikings and split a pair of games in 1997, all in Panama City, Fla. The Vikings swept all three games in Florida on the Red Men’s 2001 spring trip, and the two teams split four games on the 2003 spring trip.

Greenville

Carthage lost to the Panthers, 13-9, on May 4, 1957, in Greenville, Ill. The two teams did not meet again for 47 years until the Red Men won a 7-6 decision over Greenville on March 17, 2004 in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Heidelberg

Carthage defeated the Berg, 13-4, on March 14, 2000, and lost by a 14-11 margin on March 15, 2002, both games in Panama City, Fla.

Henderson State

Carthage opened the 1983 with a five-game series against the Reddies in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Hope

Carthage swept a March 24, 1995 twinbill from the Flying Dutchmen in Panama City, Fla. In the most recent meeting, Carthage blanked Hope, 3-0, on March 25, 2005 in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Illinois-Chicago

Carthage split a 1985 twinbill to the Flames, lost a 1986 doubleheader and split a 1987 set, all in Chicago, Ill.

Illinois College

The Illinois College series dates to May 21, 1913, when the Red Men shut out the Blueboys, 4-0, in Carthage, Ill. The two schools played seven College Conference of Illinois games between 1947 and 1952 when Illinois College pulled out of the league. The series continued with non-conference play through the 1950s. Carthage last played Illinois College on May 14, 1960.

Illinois State

The Redbirds nipped the Red Men, 2-1, on May 27, 1949, in Normal, Ill.

Illinois Wesleyan

The series with the Titans began with a lopsided, 20-3 Illinois Wesleyan win on April 30, 1914, in Bloomington, Ill.

Incarnate Word

The Crusaders swept the Red Men in a March 31, 1989 doubleheader in San Antonio, Texas.

The Hoosiers nipped Carthage, 4-3, on March 27, 1978, in Dallas, Texas.

The Iowa Wesleyan series began on May 18, 1910, with a 3-2 loss to the Tigers in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. The series continued through the 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s until Carthage moved to Wisconsin. The two teams last met on April 3, 1962

The Red Men nipped the Bombers, 8-7, on May 30, 1993, in the third round of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship in Battle Creek, Mich.

Kalamazoo

Carthage opened its 1996 season with a sweep of a March 17 doubleheader against the Hornets in Panama City, Fla., 9-2 and 16-1. In the nightcap, Carthage shortstop Adam Weber tied an NCAA Division III record by hitting two grand slams. Carthage also defeated Kalamazoo, 11-0, on March 22, 1997, 9-0, on March 19, 1999, and 5-3 on March 21, 2001, also in Panama City.

King’s

Carthage opened the 2006 season by sweeping a March 11 doubleheader from King’s in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Knox

Carthage and Knox played seven times between 1951 and 1956.

Lake Forest

Carthage split six College Conference of Illinois games with the Foresters in 1950-51 and 1962-63 before Lake Forest left the conference. The two schools played eight non-conference games between 1965 and 1982 before the Foresters discontinued their varsity baseball program.

Lakeland

The Red Men swamped the Muskies, 9-0, on May 15, 1974, in a Wisconsin Independent College Association playoff game in Janesville, Wis. Eighteen years went by before the next meeting, an April 9, 1992 twinbill that Carthage swept in Howards Grove, Wis. In the most recent meeting, Carthage swept an April 22, 2007 twinbill in Kenosha, Wis.

Lawrence

The Red Men played the Vikings five times in Panama City, Fla., between 1993 and 1997.

Carthage swept a March 29, 1984 twinbill from the Yellowjackets in Longview, Texas.

Lewis

Carthage and Lewis split a doubleheader in Romeoville, Ill., in 1958, and the Red Men lost to the Flyers, 8-5, on April 8, 1967, also in Romeoville.

Carthage swept back-to-back games from the Tigers on April 16-17, 1952, in Livingston, Ala. Livingston University changed its named from the University of West Alabama in 1996.

Carthage played Loras in a home doubleheader on April 28, 1959, and traveled to Dubuque, Iowa, for an April 23, 1960 twinbill. The two teams last met on April 5, 1972, in Durant Okla.

Carthage played back-to-back twinbills against the Wildcats on March 31 and April 1, 1983, in Pineville, La.

The Red Men defeated the Norse, 6-3, on May 18, 2007 in the third round of the NCAA Division III Central Region Championship in Bloomington, Ill.

The series with Highlanders began with a split of an April 11, 1959 doubleheader in Jacksonville, Ill. MacMurray eliminated Carthage in the second round of the 1996 NCAA Division III Central Regional Championship on May 17 at Simmons Field in Kenosha, Wis. The Red Men returned the favor in the second round of the 1997 regional on May 16 in Carroll, Iowa.

Manchester

The Red Men and the Spartans hooked up eight times in Panama City, Fla., between 1990 and 1992.

Marian (Wis.)

Carthage began a home-and-home series with Marian in the 1995 season. The Sabres snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Red Men with a 7-5 win in the nightcap of a March 29, 2000 doubleheader in Kenosha, Wis.

Carthage defeated Marietta, 11-7, on May 29, 1995, in the third round of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship in Salem, Va. The Red Men opened the 2002 season with a 5-2 win over the Pioneers on March 9 in Panama City, Fla. Carthage also defeated the Pioneers, 4-1, on March 15, 2003 in Panama City, Fla.

Methodist

Methodist eliminated Carthage, 12-2, on May 30, 1995, in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

The Monmouth series began with a May 14, 1948 doubleheader in Carthage, Ill., and continued a regular basis until Carthage moved to Wisconsin. The two schools played on April 22, 1964, which was the last game in the series prior to a March 16, 1998 set in Panama City, Fla. The Red Men won the 2002 NCAA Division III Central Region Championship with wins over the Fighting Scots on May 18-19 in Monmouth, Ill.

Montclair State

In Carthage's first-ever game in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, the Red Men lost to the Red Hawks, 5-1, on May 28, 1993, in Battle Creek, Mich.

Mount Mercy

Carthage played the Mustangs nine times on spring trips to Panama City, Fla., between 1990 and 1993.

Mount St. Joseph

Carthage lost to the College of Mount St. Joseph, 7-6, on May 17, 2006 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championship in St. Louis, Mo.

SUNY-Cortland defeated Carthage twice in the 2007, winning a 6-2 game on March 14 in Port Charlotte, Fla., before eliminating the Red Men from the 2007 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, 5-2, on May 27 at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, Wis.

North Carolina Wesleyan

The Red Men have faced the Battling Bishops twice in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, winning 8-4 on May 29, 1993, and 8-7 on May 29, 1994, both times in Battle Creek, Mich.

The series with the Cardinals began with a 2-1 North Central win in a May 7, 1949 College Conference of Illinois game in Carthage, Ill.
