Augustana (Ill.)

The first meeting took place on Jan. 27, 1912, in Rock Island, Ill., with Augustana winning, 32-13. With the exception of a seven-year gap between 1916 and 1923, and a 13-year gap between 1924 and 1937, the two schools have played every year since 1912.

Aurora

First meeting was at Aurora on Dec. 14, 1955, and the Red Men, defeated the Spartans, 88-74. Carthage won the first nine games of the series, before Aurora won, 98-72, on Jan. 14, 1985. The last meeting was on Dec. 1, 1998, in Aurora, Ill., and the Red Men won by a 95-87 margin.

Austin

Carthage played a home-and-home with Austin, losing both games, an 84-66 decision in Carthage, Ill., on Dec. 14, 1956, and a 78-55 game in Sherman, Texas, on Dec. 16, 1957.

Azusa Pacific

Carthage lost to the Cougars, 109-86, on Dec. 21, 1998 in the Hawaii Pacific University Tournament.

Beloit

The Beloit series dates to Dec. 29, 1967. The last meeting resulted in a 60-48 win for the Red Men on Dec. 9, 2006 at Beloit.

Bemidji State

Carthage lost, 63-44, on Dec. 19, 1949, in Jacksonville, Ill.

Benedictine (Ill.)

The series with Illinois Benedictine, now known as Benedictine University, began in 1975 and has continued, off-and-on, since then. The last meeting was on Nov. 30, 2004 at Carthage.

Bethany (Kan.)

The Red Men defeated the Swedes, 81-64, on Dec. 4, 1999, in the championship game of the LeMay/Carthage Classic.

Blackburn

Carthage’s first game with Blackburn was on March 2, 1917, and the two schools played a home-and-home series in the 1947-48 season. The last meeting, on Dec. 17, 1947, in Carlinville, Ill., resulted in a 74-53 win for Carthage.

Bloomfield

Carthage defeated Bloomfield, 67-63, on Dec. 5, 1986, in the Nyack College Tournament in Nyack, N.Y.

Bluffton

Carthage defeated Bluffton, 69-63, on Nov. 17, 2007 in the championship game of the Westminster (Pa.) “Buzz Ridl Classic.”

Bradley

The Bradley series began in 1921 and continued through the 1930s with league play in Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The two schools last met on Feb. 19, 1937

Buena Vista

The Red Men lost their season-opener to the Beavers, 83-75, on Nov. 22, 1997.

Butler

Butler defeated Carthage, 95-51, on Jan. 23, 1980, in the only meeting between the two schools.

California-Santa Cruz

Carthage has played at UC-Santa Cruz twice, the first time in during the 1988-89 season and the last on Jan. 4, 1992, losing 77-60 to the Banana Slugs.

California Lutheran

Carthage defeated the Kingsmen, 72,-69, on Dec. 29, 1997 in the championship game of the Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament at California Lutheran. The two teams last met on Dec. 30, 2004 in the title game of the California Lutheran “Thriven Financial” Tournament, with the Kingsmen winning a 68-66 overtime game.

Calvin

Carthage and Calvin have played four times at the CCIW/MIAA Classic. Carthage lost to Calvin, 83-82 in overtime, on Dec. 4, 2004 in Wheaton, Ill. The Red Men lost to the Knights, 82-78, on Dec. 2, 2005 in Holland, Mich. Carthage defeated Calvin, 74-54, on Dec. 2, 2006 in Kenosha, Wis., and lost a 75-63 decision on Nov. 30, 2007 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Capital

Carthage lost to Capital, 80-76, on Dec. 27, 1976, in the Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.

Cardinal Stritch

The series with the Crusaders began with a 110-63 Red Men victory on Nov. 29, 1982.

Carleton

Carthage lost at Carleton, 88-76, on Nov. 30, 1991.

Carroll (Wis.)

The Carroll series began on Jan. 6, 1961, when Carroll was in the CCIW and before Carthage rejoined the league.

Chadron State defeated Carthage, 71-62, in the December 1961 “Top of the Nation” Tournament in Alamosa, Colo.

The two schools played once in the 1978-79 season and again in the 1991-92 campaign before beginning a home-and-home series in the 2001-02 season.

Concordia College (Neb.)

Carthage defeated Concordia College (Neb.), 91-78, on Dec. 28, 1976 in the Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn. The Red Men also defeated the Bulldogs, 61-58, on Dec. 28, 1997, in the first round of the Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Cal.

Concordia College (St. Paul)

Carthage played Concordia College (St. Paul) at home in the 1969-70 season and in Minneapolis, Minn., during the 1973-74 season.

Concordia Seminary

The Concordia Seminary series began in the 1952-53 season, and the last game between the two schools was in the 1959-60 season.

Concordia University (Calif.)

In an unusual season-opener, the Red Men played Concordia University (Calif.) twice in the 2005 Maui Classic. Carthage lost the first game, 78-75, on Nov. 23, 2005 but won the second game by a 78-64 margin on Nov. 26, 2005.

Concordia University (Ill.)

The series with Concordia University (Ill.) began in 1964-65 and has continued sporadically since then. Carthage last played the Cougars on Jan. 4, 1994.

Concordia University (Wis.)

The Concordia (Wis.) series began in the 1978-79 season and continued on a regular basis through the 1980s. The two teams last played on Dec. 19, 2005, with the Red Men winning a 102-59 decision at the John Buuck Fieldhouse in Mequon, Wis.

Cornell College

The two teams first met on Jan. 5, 1938, in the Augustana College Tournament and played five more times between 1953 and 1955.

Culver-Stockton

The series with Culver-Stockton began on Jan. 23, 1914 when the school was known as Christian University. The last time the two schools hooked up was on Feb. 9, 1962.

Dallas Baptist

Carthage lost to Dallas Baptist, 74-56, on Dec. 17, 1957, in Marshall, Texas.

Dana

Carthage defeated Dana, 72-70, on Nov. 30, 1956.

Dominican (Cal.)

The Red Men defeated Dominican, 111-77, on Jan. 8, 1989, in San Rafael, Cal.

Dominican (Ill.)

The Red Men defeated the Stars, 101-62, on Nov. 30, 2001, in the first round of the LeMay/Carthage Classic in Kenosha, Wis.

East-West

Carthage split a home-and-home series with the Phoenix in the 2007-08 season, winning 79-56 home game on Nov. 28, 2007 but losing a 66-63 decision on Dec. 10, 2007 at Kennedy-King College in Chicago.

Eastern

Carthage defeated Eastern, 85-69, on Nov. 16, 2007 in the first round of the Westminster (Pa.) “Buzz Ridl Classic.”

Eastern Illinois

Carthage lost to Eastern Illinois, 20-17, on March 7, 1919 in the second round if the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in Bloomington, Ill. The Red Men lost again, 72-71, on Dec. 7, 2000, in Charleston, Ill.

Eckerd

Carthage first played Eckerd, then known as Florida Presbyterian College, on Jan. 4, 1969, in the Florida Presbyterian Tournament in St. Petersburg, Fla. Carthage and Eckerd played a home-and-home series, with Eckerd visiting Carthage in the 1993-94 season, and the Red Men playing in Florida the following year. Carthage's first win in the series came with a 76-67 decision on Dec. 30, 2000, in St. Petersburg.

Edgewood

Edgewood defeated Carthage, 64-63, on Dec. 6, 1995, and again, 65-57, on Dec. 14, 1996,

Elmhurst

The Elmhurst series began on Feb. 5, 1942 with Carthage winning, 51-46, in Elmhurst, Ill.

Eureka

The Eureka series began on Feb. 13, 1914, continued through the 1920s and 1930s with Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and ended with Carthage’s move to Wisconsin. The last game in the series was played on Jan. 14, 1961.

Ferris State

Carthage defeated Ferris State, 77-58, on Dec. 20, 1975, in the Spring Arbor College Tournament and lost, 51-40, on Dec. 1, 1984, in the Wisconsin--Parkside Tournament.

Fort Hayes State

Carthage lost to Fort Hays State, 79-56, on Dec. 30, 1961 in the “Top of the Nation” Tournament in Alamosa, Colo.

Fournier

Carthage defeated Fournier, 70-59, on Dec. 21, 1953, in Chicago, Ill.

Fresno Pacific

The Sunbirds clipped the Red Men, 75-53, on Dec. 22, 1998 in the Hawaii Pacific University Tournament.

Gettysburg

Carthage defeated the Bullets, 89-87 in overtime, on Dec. 29, 2004 at the California Lutheran University “Thrivent Financial” Tournament in Thousand, Oaks, Calif.

Grace (Ind.)

Carthage defeated the Lancers, 71-48, on Dec. 1, 2000, in the first round of the LeMay/Carthage Classic.

Greenville

The Greenville series dates to 1956, and the last game between the two schools was on Feb. 21, 1959.

Grinnell

Carthage and Grinnell played a home-and-home series in 2006 and 2007. The Red Men won the first game, 135-123, on Jan. 4, 2006 at Carthage.

Gustavus Adolphus

Carthage played Gustavus Adolphus three times in the Valparaiso/Crusader Classic from 1969 to 1977. The two teams met in Tacoma, Wash., on Dec. 5, 1987, and again on March 8, 2002 when Carthage defeated Gustavus Adolphus, 71-65, in the 2002 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball sectional-championship semifinals at the Carthage Physical Education Center. The two teams last met on Nov. 26, 2006 with the Red Men winning a 63-58 decision at Gustavus Adolphus.

Hamline

Carthage defeated Hamline, 92-87, on Nov. 18, 1994, in the first round of the Ripon College Tournament.

Hannibal-La Grange

The series began in the 1923-24 season with La Grange College, which later merged with Hannibal College to become Hannibal-La Grange. Carthage and Hannibal-La Grange played a home-and-home series during the 1945-46 season

Hanover

Carthage defeated Hanover, 74-71, on Nov. 24, 1961, in Lebanon, Ill.

Harris-Stowe

Carthage played Harris-Stowe four times from 1958 to 1960, the last meeting on Feb. 13, 1960

Hawaii Pacific

The Red Men lost to the Sea Warriors, 74-65, on Dec. 30, 2002 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Hope

In the first meeting between the two teams, Carthage defeated Hope, 76-71, on Jan. 4, 1980, in Kenosha, Wis. The Red Men defeated the Flying Dutchmen, 63-57, on March 2, 2002, in Kenosha, Wis., in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship. The two teams have met four times in the CCIW/MIAA Classic. Carthage defeated Hope, 70-65, on Dec. 3, 2004 in Wheaton, Ill. The Red Men lost to the Flying Dutchmen, 75-61, on Dec. 3, 2005in Holland, Mich. Carthage defeated Hope, 71-65, on Dec. 1, 2006 in Kenosha, Wis., but lost am 85-75 decision on Dec. 1, 2007 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Illinois-Chicago

Carthage lost to Illinois-Chicago, 88-57, on Dec. 22, 1952, in Chicago, Ill.

Illinois College

One of the Red Men’s longest-running series began on Feb. 15, 1907, and continued nearly every year until Carthage moved to Wisconsin. The two teams were rivals in the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference from 1925 until 1937 when Illinois College dropped out. The two were also charter members of the CCIW and played conference games from 1947 to 1952 when Illinois College withdrew from the CCIW. Following a game on Jan. 14, 1961, the two teams didn’t meet again until Carthage defeated the Blueboys, 74-69, on Nov. 25, 2001, in the title game of the Illinois College “Bill Merris Tip-Off Classic.”

Illinois Institute of Technology

The two schools hooked once in the 1955-56 season and again during the 1986-87 campaign. In the last meeting between the two schools, Carthage won an 84-44 game on Jan. 14, 2008 in Kenosha, Wis.

Illinois State

The Illinois State series began in the 1962-63 season and continued on a home-and-home basis for several years, even after Carthage moved to Wisconsin. The Redbirds played in Kenosha, Wis., in both the 1964-65 and the 1965-66 seasons. The last meeting, in Normal, Ill., was on Nov. 29, 1980.

Illinois Wesleyan

The Illinois Wesleyan series dates to 1926 when both schools were in the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Following a game in 1927, the two teams did not play again until 1947 when the CCIW was formed. Only two games in this long-running series were non-conference affairs, a home-and-home series in 1960-61 played when Carthage was operating as an independent.

Indiana-South Bend

The Red Men defeated the Titans, 82-71, on Jan. 19, 1998.

Indiana-Southeast

The Red Men defeated the Grenadiers, 70-59, on Dec. 6, 2003 in the championship game of the “Carthage Classic.”

Indiana Wesleyan

Carthage played Indiana Wesleyan on Dec. 20, 1989, in the Warner Southern College Tournament in Lake Wales, Fla., and again on Dec. 6, 1991, in Terre Haute, Ind.

Iowa Wesleyan

Another of Carthage’s long-running series began in January 1911 and continued on a fairly regular basis until Carthage left Illinois. The last game of the series was played on Feb. 11, 1964.

Judson (Ill.)

Carthage defeated Judson, 81-61, on Dec. 29, 1983, in the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament.

Knox

The Knox series began in 1928 when both schools were in the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and continued until 1936 when Knox withdrew. The two teams resumed their rivalry in the mid 1950s when Carthage was playing as an independent. The last game in the series was Feb. 19, 1957.

Lake Forest

The Lake Forest series began during the CCIW’s inaugural season of 1946-47, stopped during the 1950s when Carthage played an independent schedule, and resumed in 1963. Except for a gap between 1968 and 1976, the two schools have played nearly every year until 1996 when the series stopped. The two school resumed playing each other in 2003.

Lakeland

The Lakeland series began with an NAIA District 20 playoff game on Feb. 27, 1968, in Kenosha, Wis. The two teams met four more times in the early 1970s but not again until meeting in the 1993 Wisconsin-Stevens Point/Terry Porter Classic. Carthage and Lakeland played a home-and-home series in the 1996 and 1997 seasons and met again in both the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

Lawrence

Carthage and Lawrence played five times between 1966 and 1979, with the series resuming on Dec. 18, 2003 at the Palm Beach “Cruzin’ Classic” in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Lewis

Carthage and Lewis first met on Dec. 3, 1977, in the Aurora University Tournament, played again in 1983 in the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament and met last on Dec. 30, 2006 at Lewis

Lewis & Clark

The Red Men defeated the Pioneers, 85-70, on March 9, 2002, in the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball sectional championship game at Carthage College.

Loras

The Loras series began in 1958, with the last meeting occurring on Dec. 29, 1984, in the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament.

Loyola (Ill.)

The Red Men lost to the Ramblers, 85-61, on Jan. 22, 1992, in Chicago, Ill.

Luther

Carthage and Luther played three times between 1965 and 1972. The last meeting took place on Dec. 2, 1972.

Lynn

Carthage lost at Lynn, 95-76, on Dec. 29, 1994.

MacMurray

The two schools played six times between 1959 and 1963, and the Red Men won the first game of the series, 89-46, on Jan. 11, 2003 at the Carthage Physical Education Center.

Malone

The Red Men defeated the Pioneers, 75-3, on Dec. 20, 2001, in the Palm Beach “Cruzin’ Classic” in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Maranatha Baptist Bible

Carthage defeated Maranatha Baptist Bible, 92-60, on Dec. 1, 1987, 87-60 on Dec. 2, 1997, and 107-60 on Dec. 8, 1998.

Marian (Wis.)

Carthage and Marian(Wis.) first played in the 1974 Milton College Tournament. The two schools played a home-and-home series between 1993 and 1996, and Carthage defeated Marian (Wis.), 83-65,on March 1, 2001, in Kenosha, Wis., in the first round of the 2001 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship.

Marietta

Carthage defeated Marietta, 82-51, on Dec. 20, 2006 at the “D-3 Desert Shootout” in Las Vegas, Nev.

Maryville (Mo.)

The Red Men defeated the Saints, 84-50, on Dec. 29, 2002 at Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii. The two teams last played on Dec. 5, 2003, with the Red Men winning an 85-58 decision at the Carthage Physical Education Center in the first round of the “Carthage Classic.”

Massachusetts-Dartmouth

Carthage defeated Massachusetts-Dartmouth, 90-41, on March 9, 2001, in Ada, Ohio, in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship sectional semifinals.

Massachusetts-Lowell

The Red Men defeated the River Hawks, 69-68, on Dec. 31, 1999, in the championship game of the Webber College Tournament.

McKendree

The McKendree series began in 1919 and continued through 1938 with Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Since then, the Red Men have played the Bearcats three times, with the last game on Nov. 25, 1961.

Menlo

Carthage defeated Menlo, 76-62, on Jan. 7, 1992, in Atherton, Cal.

Midland Lutheran

Carthage and Midland Lutheran played a home-and-home series in the 1955-56 and 1967-57 seasons.

Midwestern State

Carthage lost to Midwestern State, 76-68, on Dec. 19, 1957, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Millikin

Carthage and Millikin played one Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game in 1933 and resumed their series in 1947 as CCIW members. The Red Men and the Big Blue also hooked up in an NAIA District 14 playoff game, which Millikin won, 83-67, on March 6, 1957.

Milwaukee School of Engineering

Carthage and MSOE played four times between 1986 and 1989. The series resumed with a 77-63 Carthage victory at Milwaukee's U.S. Cellular Arena on Dec. 2, 2002.

Minnesota-Duluth

Carthage lost to Minnesota-Duluth, 68-67, on Dec. 30, 1980, in the Wisconsin-Parkside Tournament.

Minnesota State-Mankato

Minnesota State-Mankato, then known as Mankato State University, defeated Carthage, 108-86, on Dec. 27, 1995, in Mankato, Minn.

Minnesota State-Moorhead

Carthage lost to Minnesota State-Moorhead, then known as Moorhead State University, 96-87, on Nov. 26, 1993, in the Wisconsin-Stevens Point/Terry Porter Classic.

Monmouth

Another long-standing, central-Illinois rivalry began in 1907 and continued through Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in the 1930s. The two schools continued to play on a regular basis throughout the 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s. The last meeting was on Dec. 22, 1970.

Moody Bible Institute

Carthage played a home-and-home series with Moody Bible in the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons.

Mount St. Joseph

The Red Men defeated the Lions, 72-50, on Nov. 24, 2001, in the first round of the Illinois College “Bill Merris Tip-Off Classic” in Jacksonville, Ill.

North Central

The North Central series began on March 3, 1928, with an Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.

North Park

The North Park series began with a CCIW contest on Jan. 5, 1963.

Northern Illinois

Carthage played Northern Illinois 11 times between 1938 and 1943, six of those in Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The two teams last met on Jan. 30, 1943.

The Red Men defeated the Lumberjacks, 84-74, on Jan. 5, 2007 in Kenosha, Wis.

Northland Baptist Bible

The Red Men defeated the Pioneers, 114-57, on Dec. 7, 1990, in Madison, Wis.

Occidental

Carthage lost to Occidental, 96-90, on Dec. 31, 1990, in Los Angeles, Cal.

Ohio Northern

Ohio Northern defeated Carthage, 66-64, on March 10, 2001, in Ada, Ohio, in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship sectional championship.

Olivet

Carthage defeated Olivet, 82-63, on Dec. 19, 2006 at the “D-3 Desert Shootout” in Las Vegas, Nev.

Olivet Nazarene

The Red Men defeated the Tigers, 69-56, on Dec. 8, 2001, in Kenosha, Wis., and lost a 77-72 decision on Nov. 30, 2002 in Bourbonnais, Ill. In the last meeting between the two teams, Carthage won a 70-65 game on Dec. 11, 2007 in Kenosha, Wis.

The Red Men lost to the Cardinals, 88-81, on Dec. 30, 1998 in the championship game of the Otterbein College Tournament. Otterbein also defeated Carthage, 70-66, on March 15, 2002, in the semifinal game of the NCAA

Pacific Lutheran

Carthage played Pacific Lutheran in the 1969 Valparaiso/Crusaders Classic and again in 1987 in Tacoma, Wash.

Palm Beach Atlantic

The Red Men defeated the Sailfish, 84-61, on Dec. 19, 2001, in the Palm Beach “Cruzin’ Classic” in West Palm Beach, Fla. The two teams played again in the 2003 “Cruzin’ Classic,” with Carthage winning a 61-51 decision on Dec. 16, 2003.

Principia

Carthage played Principia three times between 1940 and 1942 and played a home-and-home series with the Panthers in the 1959-60 season.

Purdue-Calumet

The Carthage series with Purdue-Calumet began with a 98-64 victory on Dec. 10, 1998, in Kenosha, Wis.

Quincy

The Quincy series began in 1907 and continued on a nearly-annual basis until Carthage moved to Wisconsin. The last meeting, on March 2, 1964, was an NAIA District 14 playoff game which Quincy won, 79-64.

Ripon

The Red Men have played the Red Hawks five times since 1974, most recently in the 1994 Ripon College Tournament.

Roanoke

Carthage played Roanoke in the 1973 Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn., and again in the 1975 Valparaiso/Crusader Classic.

Rochester

The Red Men defeated the Yellow Jackets, 72-51, on March 16, 2002 in the consolation game of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship in Salem, Va.

Rockford

The Rockford series dates to 1978, with the last meeting coming on Jan. 14, 1991.

Rollins

Carthage lost to Rollins, 87-83, on Dec. 30, 1994, and again, 78-64, on Dec. 30, 1996, both games in Winter Park, Fla.

Rose-Hulman

Carthage lost to Rose-Hulman, 74-64, on Dec. 7, 1991, in Terre Haute, Ind.

Saginaw Valley

Carthage defeated Saginaw Valley, 74-70, on Dec. 28, 1981, in the Wisconsin-Parkside Tournament. Current Central Michigan head coach and former University of Michigan assistant Jay Smith played on that Saginaw Valley squad.

St. Ambrose

Carthage and St. Olaf first played in the 1965 Luther College Tournament in Deborah, Iowa. They met twice during the 1973-74 season, once in the Valparaiso/Crusader Classic and again in the Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.

Carthage lost to St. Xavier, 81-68, on Nov. 25, 1995, in the Wisconsin-Stevens Point/Terry Porter Classic. The Red Men defeated the Cougars, 75-71, on Jan. 5, 2002, in Kenosha, Wis., and lost a 78-77 decision on Jan. 4, 2003 at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill.
