Augustana (Ill.)

The first meeting took place on Jan. 27, 1912, in Rock Island, Ill., with Augustana winning, 32-13. With the exception of a seven-year gap between 1916 and 1923, and a 13-year gap between 1924 and 1937, the two schools have played every year since 1912.

Aurora

First meeting was at Aurora on Dec. 14, 1955, and the Red Men, defeated the Spartans, 88-74. Carthage won the first nine games of the series, before Aurora won, 98-72, on Jan. 14, 1985. The last meeting was on Dec. 1, 1998, in Aurora, Ill., and the Red Men won by a 95-87 margin.

Austin

Carthage played a home-and-home with Austin, losing both games, an 84-66 decision in Carthage, Ill., on Dec. 14, 1956, and a 78-55 game in Sherman, Texas, on Dec. 16, 1957.

Azusa Pacific

Carthage lost to the Cougars, 109-86, on Dec. 21, 1998 in the Hawaii Pacific University Tournament.

Beloit

The Beloit series dates to Dec. 29, 1967. The last meeting resulted in a 60-48 win for the Red Men on Dec. 9, 2006 at Beloit.

Bemidji State

Carthage lost, 63-44, on Dec. 19, 1949, in Jacksonville, Ill.

Benedictine (Ill.)

The series with Illinois Benedictine, now known as Benedictine University, began in 1975 and has continued, off-and-on, since then. The last meeting was on Nov. 30, 2004 at Carthage.

Bethany (Kan.)

The Red Men defeated the Swedes, 81-64, on Dec. 4, 1999, in the championship game of the LeMay/Carthage Classic.

Blackburn

Carthage’s first game with Blackburn was on March 2, 1917, and the two schools played a home-and-home series in the 1947-48 season. The last meeting, on Dec. 17, 1947, in Carlinville, Ill., resulted in a 74-53 win for Carthage.

Bloomfield

Carthage defeated Bloomfield, 67-63, on Dec. 5, 1986, in the Nyack College Tournament in Nyack, N.Y.

Bluffton

Carthage defeated Bluffton, 69-63, on Nov. 17, 2007 in the championship game of the Westminster (Pa.) “Buzz Ridl Classic.”

Bradley

The Bradley series began in 1921 and continued through the 1930s with league play in Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The two schools last met on Feb. 19, 1937

Buena Vista

The Red Men lost their season-opener to the Beavers, 83-75, on Nov. 22, 1997.

Butler

Butler defeated Carthage, 95-51, on Jan. 23, 1980, in the only meeting between the two schools.

California-Santa Cruz

Carthage has played at UC-Santa Cruz twice, the first time in during the 1988-89 season and the last on Jan. 4, 1992, losing 77-60 to the Banana Slugs.

California Lutheran

Carthage defeated the Kingsmen, 72,-69, on Dec. 29, 1997 in the championship game of the Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament at California Lutheran. The two teams met again on Dec. 30, 2004 in the title game of the California Lutheran “Thriven Financial” Tournament, with the Kingsmen winning a 68-66 overtime game. The two teams last played on Nov. 24, 2008, with California Lutheran winning an 84-78 contest in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Calvin

Carthage and Calvin have played five times at the CCIW/MIAA Classic. Carthage lost to Calvin, 83-82 in overtime, on Dec. 4, 2004 in Wheaton, Ill.; lost to the Knights, 82-78, on Dec. 2, 2005 in Holland, Mich.; defeated Calvin, 74-54, on Dec. 2, 2006 in Kenosha, Wis.; lost a 75-63 decision on Nov. 30, 2007 in Grand Rapids, Mich.; and won a 95-82 game on Dec. 6, 2008 in Wheaton, Ill.

Capital

Carthage lost to Capital, 80-76, on Dec. 27, 1976, in the Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.

The series with the Crusaders began with a 110-63 Red Men victory on Nov. 29, 1982.

Carthage lost at Carleton, 88-76, on Nov. 30, 1991.

Carroll (Wis.)

The Carroll series began on Jan. 6, 1961, when Carroll was in the CCIW and before Carthage rejoined the league. Carroll College changed its named to Carroll University in July 2008.

Central

The two schools met for the first time in the 1936-37 season and played home-and-home series in both the 1953-54 and 1964-65 seasons.

Central Missouri State defeated Carthage, 91-75, on Feb. 6, 1954.

Central State

Carthage defeated Central State, 88-80, on Dec. 18, 1975, in the Spring Arbor College Tournament in Spring Arbor, Mich.

Chadron State defeated Carthage, 71-62, in the December 1961 “Top of the Nation” Tournament in Alamosa, Colo.

Chicago, University of

The two schools played once in the 1978-79 season and again in the 1991-92 campaign before beginning a home-and-home series in the 2001-02 season.

Concordia College (Neb.)

Carthage defeated Concordia College (Neb.), 91-78, on Dec. 28, 1976 in the Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn. The Red Men also defeated the Bulldogs, 61-58, on Dec. 28, 1997, in the first round of the Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Cal.

Concordia College (St. Paul)

Carthage played Concordia College (St. Paul) at home in the 1969-70 season and in Minneapolis, Minn., during the 1973-74 season.

Concordia Seminary

The Concordia Seminary series began in the 1952-53 season, and the last game between the two schools was in the 1959-60 season.

Concordia University (Calif.)

In an unusual season-opener, the Red Men played Concordia University (Calif.) twice in the 2005 Maui Classic. Carthage lost the first game, 78-75, on Nov. 23, 2005 but won the second game by a 78-64 margin on Nov. 26, 2005.

Concordia University (Ill.)

The series with Concordia University (Ill.) began in 1964-65 and has continued sporadically since then. Carthage last played the Cougars on Jan. 4, 1994.

Concordia University (Wis.)

The Concordia (Wis.) series began in the 1978-79 season and continued on a regular basis through the 1980s. The two teams last played on Dec. 19, 2005, with the Red Men winning a 102-59 decision at the John Buuck Fieldhouse in Mequon, Wis.

Cornell College

The two teams first met on Jan. 5, 1938, in the Augustana College Tournament and played five more times between 1953 and 1955.

Culver-Stockton

The series with Culver-Stockton began on Jan. 23, 1914 when the school was known as Christian University. The last time the two schools hooked up was on Feb. 9, 1962.

Dallas Baptist

Carthage lost to Dallas Baptist, 74-56, on Dec. 17, 1957, in Marshall, Texas.

Dana

Carthage defeated Dana, 72-70, on Nov. 30, 1956.

The Red Men defeated Dominican, 111-77, on Jan. 8, 1989, in San Rafael, Cal.

The Red Men defeated the Stars, 101-62, on Nov. 30, 2001, in the first round of the LeMay/Carthage Classic in Kenosha, Wis.

East-West

Carthage split a home-and-home series with the Phoenix in the 2007-08 season, winning 79-56 home game on Nov. 28, 2007 but losing a 66-63 decision on Dec. 10, 2007 at Kennedy-King College in Chicago.

Eastern

Carthage defeated Eastern, 85-69, on Nov. 16, 2007 in the first round of the Westminster (Pa.) “Buzz Ridl Classic.”

Eastern Illinois

Carthage lost to Eastern Illinois, 20-17, on March 7, 1919 in the second round if the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in Bloomington, Ill. The Red Men lost again, 72-71, on Dec. 7, 2000, in Charleston, Ill.

Eckerd

Carthage first played Eckerd, then known as Florida Presbyterian College, on Jan. 4, 1969, in the Florida Presbyterian Tournament in St. Petersburg, Fla. Carthage and Eckerd played a home-and-home series, with Eckerd visiting Carthage in the 1993-94 season, and the Red Men playing in Florida the following year. Carthage's first win in the series came with a 76-67 decision on Dec. 30, 2000, in St. Petersburg.

Edgewood

Edgewood defeated Carthage, 64-63, on Dec. 6, 1995, and again, 65-57, on Dec. 14, 1996,

Elmhurst

The Elmhurst series began on Feb. 5, 1942 with Carthage winning, 51-46, in Elmhurst, Ill.

Eureka

The Eureka series began on Feb. 13, 1914, continued through the 1920s and 1930s with Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and ended with Carthage’s move to Wisconsin. The last game in the series was played on Jan. 14, 1961.

Ferris State

Carthage defeated Ferris State, 77-58, on Dec. 20, 1975, in the Spring Arbor College Tournament and lost, 51-40, on Dec. 1, 1984, in the Wisconsin--Parkside Tournament.

Fort Hayes State

Carthage lost to Fort Hays State, 79-56, on Dec. 30, 1961 in the “Top of the Nation” Tournament in Alamosa, Colo.

Fournier

Carthage defeated Fournier, 70-59, on Dec. 21, 1953, in Chicago, Ill.

Fresno Pacific

The Sunbirds clipped the Red Men, 75-53, on Dec. 22, 1998 in the Hawaii Pacific University Tournament.

Gettysburg

Carthage defeated the Bullets, 89-87 in overtime, on Dec. 29, 2004 at the California Lutheran University “Thrivent Financial” Tournament in Thousand, Oaks, Calif.

Grace (Ind.)

Carthage defeated the Lancers, 71-48, on Dec. 1, 2000, in the first round of the LeMay/Carthage Classic.

Greenville

The Greenville series dates to 1956, and the last game between the two schools was on Feb. 21, 1959.

Grinnell

Carthage and Grinnell played a home-and-home series in 2006 and 2007. The Red Men won the first game, 135-123, on Jan. 4, 2006 at Carthage.

Gustavus Adolphus

Carthage played Gustavus Adolphus three times in the Valparaiso/Crusader Classic from 1969 to 1977. The two teams met in Tacoma, Wash., on Dec. 5, 1987, and again on March 8, 2002 when Carthage defeated Gustavus Adolphus, 71-65, in the 2002 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball sectional-championship semifinals at the Carthage Physical Education Center. The two teams last met on Nov. 26, 2006 with the Red Men winning a 63-58 decision at Gustavus Adolphus.

Hamline

Carthage defeated Hamline, 92-87, on Nov. 18, 1994, in the first round of the Ripon College Tournament.

Hannibal-La Grange

The series began in the 1923-24 season with La Grange College, which later merged with Hannibal College to become Hannibal-La Grange. Carthage and Hannibal-La Grange played a home-and-home series during the 1945-46 season

Hanover

Carthage defeated Hanover, 74-71, on Nov. 24, 1961, in Lebanon, Ill.

Harris-Stowe

Carthage played Harris-Stowe four times from 1958 to 1960, the last meeting on Feb. 13, 1960

Hawaii Pacific

The Red Men lost to the Sea Warriors, 74-65, on Dec. 30, 2002 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Hope

In the first meeting between the two teams, Carthage defeated Hope, 76-71, on Jan. 4, 1980, in Kenosha, Wis. The Red Men defeated the Flying Dutchmen, 63-57, on March 2, 2002, in Kenosha, Wis., in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship. The two teams have met five times in the CCIW/MIAA Classic. Carthage defeated Hope, 70-65, on Dec. 3, 2004 in Wheaton, Ill.; lost to the Flying Dutchmen, 75-61, on Dec. 3, 2005 in Holland, Mich.; defeated Hope, 71-65, on Dec. 1, 2006 in Kenosha, Wis.; lost an 85-75 decision on Dec. 1, 2007 in Grand Rapids, Mich.; and won an 89-68 game on Dec. 5, 2008 in Wheaton, Ill.

Illinois-Chicago

Carthage lost to Illinois-Chicago, 88-57, on Dec. 22, 1952, in Chicago, Ill.

Illinois College

One of the Red Men’s longest-running series began on Feb. 15, 1907, and continued nearly every year until Carthage moved to Wisconsin. The two teams were rivals in the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference from 1925 until 1937 when Illinois College dropped out. The two were also charter members of the CCIW and played conference games from 1947 to 1952 when Illinois College withdrew from the CCIW. Following a game on Jan. 14, 1961, the two teams didn’t meet again until Carthage defeated the Blueboys, 74-69, on Nov. 25, 2001, in the title game of the Illinois College “Bill Merris Tip-Off Classic.”

Illinois Institute of Technology

The two schools hooked once in the 1955-56 season and again during the 1986-87 campaign. In the last meeting between the two schools, Carthage won an 84-44 game on Jan. 14, 2008 in Kenosha, Wis.

Illinois State

The Illinois State series began in the 1962-63 season and continued on a home-and-home basis for several years, even after Carthage moved to Wisconsin. The Redbirds played in Kenosha, Wis., in both the 1964-65 and the 1965-66 seasons. The last meeting, in Normal, Ill., was on Nov. 29, 1980.

Illinois Wesleyan

The Illinois Wesleyan series dates to 1926 when both schools were in the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Following a game in 1927, the two teams did not play again until 1947 when the CCIW was formed. Only two games in this long-running series were non-conference affairs, a home-and-home series in 1960-61 played when Carthage was operating as an independent.

Indiana-South Bend

The Red Men defeated the Titans, 82-71, on Jan. 19, 1998.

Indiana-Southeast

The Red Men defeated the Grenadiers, 70-59, on Dec. 6, 2003 in the championship game of the “Carthage Classic.”

Indiana Wesleyan

Carthage played Indiana Wesleyan on Dec. 20, 1989, in the Warner Southern College Tournament in Lake Wales, Fla., and again on Dec. 6, 1991, in Terre Haute, Ind.

Iowa Wesleyan

Another of Carthage’s long-running series began in January 1911 and continued on a fairly regular basis until Carthage left Illinois. The last game of the series was played on Feb. 11, 1964.

Judson (Ill.)

Carthage defeated Judson, 81-61, on Dec. 29, 1983, in the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament.

Keene State

The Red Men defeated the Owls, 84-69, on Dec. 16, 2008 in the Cruzin’ Classic at Nova Southeastern University’s Center Arena in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Knox

The Knox series began in 1928 when both schools were in the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and continued until 1936 when Knox withdrew. The two teams resumed their rivalry in the mid 1950s when Carthage was playing as an independent. The last game in the series was Feb. 19, 1957.

Lake Forest

The Lake Forest series began during the CCIW’s inaugural season of 1946-47, stopped during the 1950s when Carthage played an independent schedule, and resumed in 1963. Except for a gap between 1968 and 1976, the two schools have played nearly every year until 1996 when the series stopped. The two school resumed playing each other in 2003.

Lakeland

The Lakeland series began with an NAIA District 20 playoff game on Feb. 27, 1968, in Kenosha, Wis. The two teams met four more times in the early 1970s but not again until meeting in the 1993 Wisconsin-Stevens Point/Terry Porter Classic. Carthage and Lakeland played a home-and-home series in the 1996 and 1997 seasons and met again in both the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

Lawrence

Carthage and Lawrence played five times between 1966 and 1979, with the series resuming on Dec. 18, 2003 at the Palm Beach “Cruzin’ Classic” in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Lewis

Carthage and Lewis first met on Dec. 3, 1977, in the Aurora University Tournament, played again in 1983 in the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament and met last on Dec. 30, 2006 at Lewis

Lewis & Clark

The Red Men defeated the Pioneers, 85-70, on March 9, 2002, in the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball sectional championship game at Carthage College.

Loras

The Loras series began in 1958. The two teams last met on Dec. 17, 2008 in the Cruzin’ Classic, with the Red Men defeating the Duhawks, 72-70, at Nova Southeastern University’s Center Arena in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Loyola (Ill.)

The Red Men lost to the Ramblers, 85-61, on Jan. 22, 1992, in Chicago, Ill.

Luther

Carthage and Luther played three times between 1965 and 1972. The last meeting took place on Dec. 2, 1972.

Lynn

Carthage lost at Lynn, 95-76, on Dec. 29, 1994.

MacMurray

The two schools played six times between 1959 and 1963, and the Red Men won the first game of the series, 89-46, on Jan. 11, 2003 at the Carthage Physical Education Center.

Malone

The Red Men defeated the Pioneers, 75-3, on Dec. 20, 2001, in the Palm Beach “Cruzin’ Classic” in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Maranatha Baptist Bible

Carthage defeated Maranatha Baptist Bible, 92-60, on Dec. 1, 1987, 87-60 on Dec. 2, 1997, and 107-60 on Dec. 8, 1998.

Marian (Wis.)

Carthage and Marian(Wis.) first played in the 1974 Milton College Tournament. The two schools played a home-and-home series between 1993 and 1996, and Carthage defeated Marian (Wis.), 83-65,on March 1, 2001, in Kenosha, Wis., in the first round of the 2001 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship.

Marietta

Carthage defeated Marietta, 82-51, on Dec. 20, 2006 at the “D-3 Desert Shootout” in Las Vegas, Nev.

Maryville (Mo.)

The Red Men defeated the Saints, 84-50, on Dec. 29, 2002 at Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii. The two teams last played on Dec. 5, 2003, with the Red Men winning an 85-58 decision at the Carthage Physical Education Center in the first round of the “Carthage Classic.”

Massachusetts-Dartmouth

Carthage defeated Massachusetts-Dartmouth, 90-41, on March 9, 2001, in Ada, Ohio, in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship sectional semifinals.

Massachusetts-Lowell

The Red Men defeated the River Hawks, 69-68, on Dec. 31, 1999, in the championship game of the Webber College Tournament.

McKendree

The McKendree series began in 1919 and continued through 1938 with Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Since then, the Red Men have played the Bearcats three times, with the last game on Nov. 25, 1961.

Menlo

Carthage defeated Menlo, 76-62, on Jan. 7, 1992, in Atherton, Cal.

Midland Lutheran

Carthage and Midland Lutheran played a home-and-home series in the 1955-56 and 1967-57 seasons.

Midwestern State

Carthage lost to Midwestern State, 76-68, on Dec. 19, 1957, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Millikin

Carthage and Millikin played one Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game in 1933 and resumed their series in 1947 as CCIW members. The Red Men and the Big Blue also hooked up in an NAIA District 14 playoff game, which Millikin won, 83-67, on March 6, 1957.

Milwaukee School of Engineering

Carthage and MSOE played four times between 1986 and 1989. The series resumed with a 77-63 Carthage victory at Milwaukee's U.S. Cellular Arena on Dec. 2, 2002.

Minnesota-Duluth

Carthage lost to Minnesota-Duluth, 68-67, on Dec. 30, 1980, in the Wisconsin-Parkside Tournament.

Minnesota State-Mankato

Minnesota State-Mankato, then known as Mankato State University, defeated Carthage, 108-86, on Dec. 27, 1995, in Mankato, Minn.

Minnesota State-Moorhead

Carthage lost to Minnesota State-Moorhead, then known as Moorhead State University, 96-87, on Nov. 26, 1993, in the Wisconsin-Stevens Point/Terry Porter Classic.

Monmouth

Another long-standing, central-Illinois rivalry began in 1907 and continued through Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in the 1930s. The two schools continued to play on a regular basis throughout the 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s. The last meeting was on Dec. 22, 1970.

Moody Bible Institute

Carthage played a home-and-home series with Moody Bible in the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons.

Mount St. Joseph

The Red Men defeated the Lions, 72-50, on Nov. 24, 2001, in the first round of the Illinois College “Bill Merris Tip-Off Classic” in Jacksonville, Ill.

North Central

Olivet Nazarene

The Red Men defeated the Tigers, 69-56, on Dec. 8, 2001, in Kenosha, Wis.; lost a 77-72 decision on Nov. 30, 2002 in Bourbonnais, Ill.; won a 70-65 game on Dec. 11, 2007 in Kenosha, Wis.; and lost an 87-73 contest on Dec. 12, 2008 in Bourbonnais, Ill.

The Red Men lost to the Cardinals, 88-81, on Dec. 30, 1998 in the championship game of the Otterbein College Tournament. Otterbein also defeated Carthage, 70-66, on March 15, 2002, in the semifinal game of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship in Salem, Va.

Pacific Lutheran

Carthage played Pacific Lutheran in the 1969 Valparaiso/Crusaders Classic and again in 1987 in Tacoma, Wash.

Palm Beach Atlantic

The Red Men defeated the Sailfish, 84-61, on Dec. 19, 2001, in the Palm Beach “Cruzin’ Classic” in West Palm Beach, Fla. The two teams played again in the 2003 “Cruzin’ Classic,” with Carthage winning a 61-51 decision on Dec. 16, 2003.

Principia

Carthage played Principia three times between 1940 and 1942 and played a home-and-home series with the Panthers in the 1959-60 season.

Purdue-Calumet

The Carthage series with Purdue-Calumet began with a 98-64 victory on Dec. 10, 1998, in Kenosha, Wis.

Quincy

The Quincy series began in 1907 and continued on a nearly-annual basis until Carthage moved to Wisconsin. The last meeting, on March 2, 1964, was an NAIA District 14 playoff game which Quincy won, 79-64.

Redlands

The Red Men opened the 2008-09 season with a 72-60 win over the Bulldogs in Redlands, Calif.

Ripon

The Red Men have played the Red Hawks five times since 1974, most recently in the 1994 Ripon College Tournament.

Roanoke

Carthage played Roanoke in the 1973 Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn., and again in the 1975 Valparaiso/Crusader Classic.

Rochester

The Red Men defeated the Yellow Jackets, 72-51, on March 16, 2002 in the consolation game of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship in Salem, Va.

Rockford

Saginaw Valley

Carthage defeated Saginaw Valley, 74-70, on Dec. 28, 1981, in the Wisconsin-Parkside Tournament. Current University of Detroit assistant and former Central Michigan University head coach Jay Smith played on that Saginaw Valley squad.

St. Ambrose

Carthage and St. Ambrose played a home-and-home series in the 1915-16 and 1916-17 seasons, met again in the 1938 Augustana College Tournament and met for the last time on Dec. 9, 1939, in Davenport, Iowa.

St. Andrews Presbyterian

Carthage lost to St. Andrews, 80-65, on Dec. 19, 1989, in the Warner Southern College Tournament in Lake Wales, Fla.

Carthage and St. Norbert first played in the 1966 Lawrence University Tournament. The two teams last played on Dec. 9, 1997, with the Green Knights winning a 70-66 decision in De Pere, Wis.

Carthage and St. Olaf first played in the 1965 Luther College Tournament in Deborah, Iowa. They met twice during the 1973-74 season, once in the Valparaiso/Crusader Classic and again in the Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.

Carthage defeated the College of St. Rose, 99-70, on Dec. 6, 1986, in the Nyack College Tournament in Nyack, N.Y.

The Red Men defeated the Saints, 73-63, on Dec. 30, 2008 in the consolation game of the St. Norbert College “Nicolet Bank Holiday Tournament” in De Pere, Wis.

Savannah Art and Design

The Red Men defeated the Bees, coached by former-NBA and University of Michigan star Cazzie Russell, 66-50, on Dec. 1, 2001, in the championship game of the LeMay/Carthage Classic in Kenosha, Wis.

Silver Lake

The Red Men defeated Lakers, 82-60, on Nov. 26, 2008 at the Wisconsin-Manitowoc Fieldhouse in Manitowoc, Wis.

Southern California College

Carthage lost to Southern Californian College, 82-79, on Dec. 29, 1990, in Costa Mesa, Cal.

Southern Illinois-Carbondale

The Red Men and the Salukis hooked up three times between 1916 and 1920 in a short-lived Illinois small college post-season championship. The two schools played four other games between 1939 and 1942, two of those in Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The last meeting was on Feb. 13, 1942.

Southern Illinois-Edwardsville

Carthage lost, 101-80, on Nov. 20, 1993, in Edwardsville, Ill.

Southwestern

The Red Men lost to the Pirates, 82-72, on Dec. 18, 2007 at the Southwestern/Trinity Classic in Georgetown, Texas.

Spring Arbor

Carthage and Spring Arbor met in the Cougars’ 1975 holiday tournament in Spring Arbor, Mich., and in both the 1977 and 1985 Aurora University Tournaments in Aurora, Ill.

Tampa

The Red Men lost to the Spartans, 91-65, on Dec. 28, 1996, in Tampa, Fla., and won by an 80-74 margin, in overtime, on Jan. 2, 2001, also in Tampa.

Taylor-Fort Wayne

Carthage defeated Taylor-Fort Wayne, formerly known as Summit Christian College, and before that as Fort Wayne Bible College, 100-63,on Dec. 3, 1999, in the opening round of the LeMay/Carthage Classic.

Texas Lutheran

Carthage played Texas Lutheran in both the 1971 and 1976 Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.

Transylvania

Carthage defeated Transylvania, 71-67, on Jan. 3, 1969, in the Florida Presbyterian Tournament in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Trinity International (Ill.)

Carthage played at Trinity International in the 1986-87 season, at home during the 1988-89 campaign, at home again in the 1996-97 season and in Deerfield, Ill., in both the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons, and at home in both the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons. The Trojans were the Red Men’s first-ever opponent in Tarble Arena, which opened on Jan. 5, 2009 with a 71-67 win over Trinity International (Ill.).

Trinity University

Carthage defeated Trinity University, 74-51, on Jan. 2, 1993, in Kenosha, Wis. The Red Men also won a 56-49 game on Dec. 17, 2007 at the Southwestern/Trinity Classic in Georgetown, Texas.

Upper Iowa

Carthage played Upper Iowa once in the 1940-41 season and again in the 1945-46 season.

Valparaiso

All eight games of the Valparaiso series have been played in Valparaiso, Ind., several in that school’s Crusader Classic. Carthage’s only win in the series was a 77-76 decision on Nov. 25, 1978.

Wagner

Carthage defeated Wagner, 84-79, in the 1971 Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.

Wartburg

Carthage and Wartburg first played in the 1966 Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Park Ridge, Ill. They also met in the 1968, 1973 and 1976 Valparaiso/Crusader Classics.

Webber

Carthage defeated the Warriors, 77-59, on Dec. 30, 1999, in the first round of the Webber Tournament.

Western Illinois

Carthage played its former neighbor in nearby Macomb, Ill., 84 times between 1911 and 1954, 36 times as Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals. The only other game since 1954 was a Jan. 13, 1988, contest at Western Illinois, with the Leathernecks winning, 94-52.

Westmar

Carthage and Westmar played once in the 1953-54 season and again in the 1957-58 campaign.

Westmont

The Red Men lost to the Warriors, 72-69, on Nov. 25, 2005 at the Maui Classic.

Wheaton (Ill.)

Carthage and Wheaton played a pair of Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games in the 1930-31 season before the series resumed in 1946-47 in the CCIW.

William Penn

Carthage and William Penn played 13 times between 1952 and 1960, with the last meeting taking place on Feb. 27, 1960.

Wilmington

Carthage defeated the Quakers, 87-60, on Dec. 29, 1998 in the first round of the Otterbein College Tournament.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire

Carthage lost to the Blugolds, 71-59, on March 1, 1976, in an NAIA District 20 playoff game, and by a 74-62 margin on March 4, 2000 in an NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship second-round game at the Carthage Physical Education Center.

Wisconsin-La Crosse

Carthage lost to the Eagles, 92-80, on Dec. 27, 1979, in the Wisconsin-Parkside Tournament.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Carthage and Wisconsin-Milwaukee first met in the 1955 -56 season. The two schools played a home-and-home series in the 1968-69 season and then played five more times from 1981 to 1986. The last game was on Feb. 3, 1986, in Milwaukee, Wis.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh

Carthage and Wisconsin-Oshkosh played every year from 1976-77 to 1984-85 before the series resumed for two years from 1996 to 1997.

Wisconsin-Parkside

The Wisconsin-Parkside series began with a Dec. 2, 1969 game at the Carthage Physical Education Center that set a facility record with an estimated crowd of 3,300 fans. The series has continued, periodically, since then. The Red Men‘s two wins in the series both came at home: the first a 90-88, victory on Dec. 2, 1969, and the other on Nov. 21, 1992, by a 64-59 margin.

Wisconsin-Platteville

Carthage and Wisconsin-Platteville played a home-and-home series in the 1956-57 and 1957-58 seasons. The two teams last met on Dec. 29, 2008 with then-No. 1 Pioneers winning a 74-48 game in the first round of the St. Norbert College “Nicolet Bank Holiday Tournament” in De Pere, Wis.

Wisconsin-River Falls

Carthage defeated Wisconsin-River Falls, 83-73, on Dec. 28, 1979, in the Wisconsin-Parkside Tournament.

Wisconsin-Stevens Point

Carthage first played Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the 1967 Beloit College Tournament. The two schools played three more times between 1970 and 1973, and the Red Men played the Pointers in the 1995 Wisconsin-Stevens Point/Terry Porter Classic.

Wisconsin-Superior

Carthage played Wisconsin-Superior in both the 1977 and 1978 Wisconsin-Parkside Tournaments.

Wisconsin-Whitewater

Carthage and Wisconsin-Whitewater played four straight years from 1970-71 to 1973-74, played again in the 1984-85 season and last played on Dec. 29, 1992.

Wisconsin Lutheran

Carthage played Wisconsin Lutheran in the 1989-90 season and again in the December 1990 Edgewood College Tournament. The series resumed with an 83-57 Carthage victory on Dec. 7, 2002 in the LeMay/Carthage Classic.

Wittenberg

Carthage first played Wittenberg in the 1967 Valparaiso/Crusader Classic. The two schools played again in the 1971 Lutheran Brotherhood Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn., and played last on Dec. 27, 1985, in the Wittenberg Holiday Classic.

Wooster

Carthage defeated Wooster, 88-80, on March 3, 2001,in Wooster, Ohio, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship

Discontinued Athletic Programs

Gem City College

Carthage’s only game against the Gem City College, then known as Gem City Business College, was in Carthage, Ill., on Dec. 4, 1933. The school, located in Quincy, Ill., and founded in 1870, is now a two-year school and no longer sponsors intercollegiate athletics.

Kendall

Carthage played Kendall four times between 1998 and 2001. Kendall discontinued its athletic program after the 2003-04 academic year.

Defunct Colleges

Barat

Carthage played Barat for the first time Feb. 13, 1990, and played a home-and-home with the Bulldogs in the 1990-91 season. The last meeting, on Feb. 18, 1991, in Kenosha, Wis., resulted in a 114-47 win for the Red Men. Founded Chicago in 1858 and moved to Lake Forest, Ill., in 1904, Barat was purchased by DePaul University in 2001, but the DePaul Board of Trustees closed the school in 2004.

Hedding

Carthage played Hedding 17 times between 1910 and 1926. Located in Abingdon, Ill., Hedding was founded in 1857 as the Hedding Seminary and Central Illinois Female College and renamed Hedding College in 1875. Hedding closed in 1927 and its records were transferred to Illinois Wesleyan University in 1930. While the campus was demolished in 1947, the “Hedding Bell” is located on the main quadrangle of the Illinois Wesleyan campus. The last game of the Carthage-Hedding series was played on Feb. 3, 1926, in Abingdon.

Lombard

Carthage played Lombard seven times between 1907 and 1924. Located in Galesburg, Ill., Lombard was founded in 1853 as the Illinois Liberal Institute. The school was re-named Lombard University in 1855 and re-named again at Lombard College in 1899. The school closed its doors in June 1930. The last game of the Carthage-Lombard series was played in Galesburg on Feb. 18, 1924.

Michigan Lutheran

Carthage’s only game against Michigan Lutheran College was on Dec. 28, 1968, in the consolation game of the Valparaiso University “Crusader Classic. Michigan Lutheran, founded in 1936 and located in Detroit, Mich., later changed its named to Shaw College before closing in 1983.

Milton

Carthage played Milton five times between 1969 and 1975. Located in Milton, Wis., and founded in 1844 as the Milton Academy, the school closed on May 15, 1982. The last game in the Carthage-Milton series was played on Feb. 1, 1975, in Kenosha, Wis.

Mount Morris

Carthage played Mount Morris five times between 1923 and 1931. Located in Mount Morris, Ill., the school was founded in 1879 as the Mount Morris Seminary and Collegiate Institute and re-named Mount Morris College in 1884. The school closed in May 1932. The last game in the Carthage-Mount Morris series was played on Feb. 28, 1931, in Carthage, Ill.

Mount Senario

The Red Men defeated the Fighting Saints, 76-69, on Dec. 9, 1996, in Kenosha, Wis. Founded in 1962 and located in Ladysmith, Wis., Mount Senario closed on Aug. 31, 2002.

Marycrest International

Carthage played a home-and-home series with the Marauding Eagles in the 1987-88 and 1988-89 seasons, played in Davenport, Iowa, in the 1992-93 season, and played in Kenosha, Wis., in both the 1995-96 and 1999-2000 seasons. The series ended with a Jan. 3, 2002 date in Davenport, Iowa. Marycrest International was founded in 1939 as Marycrest College and closed following the 2001-02 academic year.

Parsons

Carthage played Parsons College 42 times between 1911 and 1960. The school, located in Fairfield, Iowa, was founded in 1875 and closed in 1973. The last game in the series was played on Jan. 30, 1960, in Carthage, Ill

St. Viator

Carthage played four Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Association games with St. Viator between 1936 and 1938. Founded in 1865 and located in Bourbonnais, Ill., the school closed following the 1937-38 academic year, and Olivet Nazarene University took over its campus in 1947. The final game in the series was on Feb. 25, 1938, in Carthage, Ill.

Shurtleff

Carthage played Shurtleff 17 times between 1909 and 1954. The school, founded in 1827 and located in Alton, Ill., closed on June 30, 1957 and was absorbed by Southern Illinois University. The final game in the Carthage-Shurtleff series was played on Feb. 12, 1954, in Alton

William & Vashti

Carthage played William & Vashti five times between 1910 and 1917. Founded in 1908 and located in Aledo, Ill., William & Vashti closed in 1917.

Junior Colleges

Burlington Junior College

Carthage played Burlington Junior College 25 times between 1922 and 1945. Located in Burlington, Iowa and founded in 1929, Burlington merged with Keokuk Junior College in 1966 and moved to West Burlington, Iowa, to become Southeastern Community College.

Lincoln

Carthage and Lincoln played 13 times between 1917 and 1926. The school, located in Lincoln, Ill., shifted from a four-year to a two-year institution in the 1940s.

Carthage All Stars

Carthage defeated a town team known as the Carthage All Stars, 22-18, on Jan. 27, 1914, at the first Carthage gym.

Carthage Faculty

The only known game between the Carthage varsity and the Carthage faculty took place on Jan. 8, 1909, but a score is not available.

Dallas City Club

Carthage opened the 1911-12 season on Jan. 5, 1912, with a 29-12 decision over the Dallas City club team in Carthage, Ill.

Golden Indees Club

Carthage lost a pair of games to the Indees club team from Golden, Ill., in the 1944-45 season.

Keokuk YMCA

Carthage’s first-ever men’s basketball game was played against the Keokuk YMCA team in Keokuk, Iowa. Carthage lost that contest by a 30-20 margin. The Red Men continued to play the Keokuk YMCA team until the series ended with a Jan. 9, 1927 game.

La Harpe

Carthage defeated the club team from La Harpe, Ill., 26-15, on Jan. 11, 1911, in Carthage, Ill.

Mount Sterling Club

Carthage lost to the club team from Mount Sterling, Ill., 51-18, on Jan. 14, 1908, in Mount Sterling.

Carthage lost to the Roanoke club team from Quincy, Ill., 25-18, on December 1907 in Carthage, Ill.

Carthage High School

The Red Men played the Blue Boys three times between 1908 and 1911.

Carthage played Elvaston High School on Jan. 7, 1921, in Carthage, Ill., and again on Jan. 10, 1922, in Elvaston.

Carthage played Keokuk High School on Feb. 1, 1907, in Keokuk, Iowa, but a score is not available.

Carthage lost to Mount Sterling High School, 20-15, on Jan. 28, 1910, in Mount Sterling, Ill.

Bradley University

Carthage played Bradley University 10 times between 1921 and 1937 before the Braves became an NCAA Division I affiliate in 1948.

Butler University

Thirty turnovers plagued the Red Men in a 95-51 loss to Butler on Jan. 23, 1980, in Indianapolis, Ind.

Chicago State University

Carthage played Chicago State University in 1955. The Cougars became an NCAA Division I program in 1985.

Eastern Illinois University

The Red Men played Eastern Illinois University in 1919, well before the advent of NCAA basketball. More recently, Carthage's Theo Powell missed a layup with two seconds remaining to would have given Carthage a 73-72 lead. The Red Men lost the game, 72-71, in Charleston, Ill., on Dec. 7, 2000

Illinois-Chicago

Carthage played Illinois-Chicago in 1952. The Flames went NCAA Division I in men's basketball in 1982.

Illinois State University

While the Carthage-Illinois State series spans nine games, only the last meeting on Nov. 29, 1980, took place after the Redbirds became an NCAA Division I affiliate in 1972. Illinois State won that contest by a 96-40 margin in Normal, Ill., after jumping out to a 48-15 lead.

Loyola University (Ill.)

The Ramblers used a 24-0 run in the first half to handle the Red Men, 85-61, at Alumni Hall in Chicago, Ill., on

Northern Illinois University

Carthage played Northern Illinois University 11 times between 1938 and 1943 before the Huskies joined the NCAA Division I ranks in 1968.

Southern Illinois University-Carbondale

Carthage played Southern Illinois University-Carbondale seven times between 1916 and 1920 prior to the Salukis becoming an NCAA Division I member in 1968.0

Valparaiso University

The Crusaders, who rejoined the NCAA Division I ranks in 1977 after previously a previous stint from 1948-58), have a 3-1 records over the Red Men since 1977. In the first game of the series on Dec. 16, 1977 in the first round of the 1977 Valparaiso "Crusader Classic," the Red Men pushed Valparaiso to double-overtime before falling by a 94-87 margin. Coach Jon Swift's Red Men stunned the Crusaders with a one-point victory, 77-76, on Nov. 25, 1978, also in Valparaiso. Coach Tim Miller's teams lost two games at Valparaiso, 84-68, on Feb. 25, 1993, and, 86-56, on Dec. 3, 1994. Bryce Drew, son of coach Homer Drew and later an NBA player, scored 17 points in that 1994 contest.

Western Illinois University

Carthage's longest-running men's basketball series is with Western Illinois University. The two former-neighbors in downstate Illinois played each other 84 times between 1911 and 1954 before the Leathernecks became an NCAA Division I affiliate in 1982.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Carthage played Wisconsin-Milwaukee eight times between 1955 and 1986, all during periods when the Panthers were not an NCAA Division I affiliate. Wisconsin-Milwaukee was an NCAA Division I affiliate from 1974-80 and rejoined in 1991.
