Carthage won it all in 2006 and 2007.
2012 NCAA Championship: CCIW-champion Illinois Wesleyan University represented the league at the Tuesday-Friday, May 15-18 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The Titans finished ninth with a 299-297-304-303-1203 score, 32 strokes behind national-champion Oglethorpe University.
The Coach: Dave Roehl finished his 10th season as head coach in 2011-12 (883-223-16, 10 years). Roehl, a long-time private golf instructor at Brighton Dale Golf Links in Kansasville, Wis., is also an assistant men’s basketball coach at Carthage. Rick Brandes, Mike Roehl and Randy Verbeten serve as part-time assistant coaches.
The Conference: The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, in its 66th year in 2011-12, has sponsored men’s golf as a championship sport since its inception in 1947. Millikin University and Augustana College (Ill.) have dominated the men’s golf championship over the years, with Millikin winning 19 titles and Augustana 16 championships. Illinois Wesleyan won its 14th CCIW title in 2012. Carthage has won seven times, and former-CCIW member Carroll College (Wis.) won five times, followed by Lake Forest College with four, North Central College with two and Elmhurst College with one title. Augustana was the league power in the late 1970s and early 1980s, winning six straight titles from 1978-1982. Millikin won a conference-record eight-straight championships from 1983-1990, and Carthage won four-consecutive titles from 1991-1994.
CCIW Player of the Week: Millikin University's Wes Hillen (Jr., Columbia, Ill.) was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin “Men’s Golfer of the Week” on May 2 for the second time this season. Hillen, who also earned "player of the week" honors on April 11, currently leads the CCIW Men's Golf Championship by eight strokes after the first two rounds on April 27-28. He finished with a two-day total of 69-71-140
Home Course: The Carthage men’s golf squad will call Meadowbrook Country Club in Racine, Wis., its official home course in 2012. Located at 2149 North Green Bay Road, Meadowbrook Country Club was designed by Todd Sloan and is lined with mature trees. The par-71, 6,471-yard course is ranked among the top-25 in the Milwaukee-area, based on slope rating. The Red Men also rotate practice and home events among four other Kenosha-area courses, including Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville, Wis., Bristol Oaks Country Club in Bristol, Wis., Kenosha Country Club in Somers, Wis., and Maplecrest Country Club in Kenosha, Wis.
CCIW Championship Format: The CCIW athletic directors, at their September 2006 meeting, approved a new format for the CCIW Men’s Golf Championship, beginning in 2007. Instead of the previous 36-hole championship played at the Elks Country Club in Pontiac, Ill., the championship was expanded to a four-day, 72-hole event and played on two separate weekends on two courses. The winner of the tournament receives the league’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship. The first two rounds of the 2012 championship will be played on Friday-Saturday, April 27-28 at the Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Ill.
