Paul Smith, a member of Carthage’s inaugural men’s soccer team in 1981, was inducted into the Wisconsin Soccer Association Hall of Fame in March 2010.  A native of Racine, Wis., Smith was co-captain and team MVP in 1981 and set a Carthage game record that season, which still stands, by collecting four assists against Milton College on Oct. 21.  He went on to play for the Racine Soccer Club for 20 years and served as a member of the board of directors of the Wisconsin Soccer Association from 1994 to 2008. He was elected president of the Wisconsin Soccer Association from 2000 to 2003. A resident of Wauwatosa, Smith is employed as outdoors editor of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
