2009 Carthage Men's Soccer Travel Information
Sept. 1 at Rollins: The team will leave campus on Monday, Aug. 24 and fly from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport to the Tampa International Airport, via United Airlines flight # 188, leaving at 1:25 p.m., CDT and arriving at 5:15 p.m., EDT. The team will stay at the Marriott Suites Clearwater Beach (1201 Gulf Blvd., 727-593-6104) in Sand Key, Fla., from Aug. 24 to Aug. 31, while training in Clearwater, Fla., Tampa, Fla., and Bradenton, Fla. From Aug. 31 to Sept. 1, the team will stay at the Hampton Inn (151 N. Douglas Ave., 407-869-9000) in Altamonte Springs, Fla., and play Rollins College on Sept. 1. The return flight, via United Airlines flight #143, leaves from Tampa on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 6:30 a.m. EDT and arrives in Chicago at 9 a.m., CDT. To reach Rollins from the Orlando International airport, follow Florida State Road 436 (Semoran Boulevard) from the airport to the intersection of State road 436 and Aloma (the first intersection past University Boulevard). Turn left at Aloma and follow for approximately 2.5 miles to Chase Avenue and turn left. Take an immediate left into the Alfond Sports Center parking lot. The Barker Family Stadium at Cahall-Sandspur Field is just west of the sports center.
Sept. 12-13 at St. Olaf and Carleton: To reach St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., take I-94 north to Milwaukee, Wis. Exit I-94 at I-894 around downtown. Follow I-94 west to Madison, Wis., and follow I-90/94 north of Madison. Where I-90 and I-94 split, near Tomah, Wis., follow I-90 west to LaCrosse, Wis. Continue on I-90 to Rochester, Minn., and exit at U.S. Highway 52 north. Stay on U.S. 52 north toward Zumbrota, Minn. Twenty miles north of Zumbrota, go left on Minnesota State Road 19 west toward Northfield, Minn. Follow Minnesota 19 for 14 miles to reach Northfield. Minnesota 19 becomes 330th Street east of Northfield.. Stay on 330th Street and go past Carleton Street, where 330th Street turns south and becomes Division Street. Turn right on Second Street, which is the first major street past Carleton College. Turn right on Water Street and follow for two blocks. Turn left on St. Olaf Avenue, which runs directly into campus in about 10 blocks. Go past Manitou Field, the football stadium until you reach the Skoglund Athletic Center. The Mellby Soccer Field is behind the Skoglund Center. Driving time between Kenosha and Northfield is approximately six hours. To reach Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., return to Minnesota State Road 19. When you reach the Carleton campus, go past the football stadium on the right and turn left at Second Street. Follow Second Street for five blocks and turn left at Maple Street. Bell Field, the Carleton soccer, softball and tennis complex, is located behind the Cowling Recreation Center.
Sept. 19 at Augustana (Ill.): To reach Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., follow I-88 west from Chicago (I-88 becomes Illinois Highway 5 after once past I-80). Follow Highway 5 until 38th Street in Rock Island (not 38th Street in Moline). Follow 38th Street two miles, down a hill and turn left on 7th Avenue, then an immediate right into the football field parking lot. The Augustana Soccer Field is behind the Carver Physical Education Center.
Sept. 26 at North Park: To reach North Park University in Chicago, follow I-94 toward Chicago. Exit at Cicero Avenue and turn left at first light (Foster Avenue). Follow Foster Avenue about two miles to reach the campus, which is at the corner of Foster and Kedzie Avenue. The Holmgren Athletic Complex is two blocks beyond campus on the right.
Sept. 30 at the University of Dubuque: To reach the University of Dubuque, follow I-294 past Chicago. Exit I-294 at I-88 west (East-West Tollway). Exit I-88 at I-74/80 west. Follow I-74/80 west toward Bettendorf, Iowa and cross the Mississippi River. Exit I-74/80 at I-74 into Bettendorf, and exit I-74 at Spruce Hills Drive west. Follow Spruce Hills Drive west to U.S. Highway 61 north. Take U.S. 61 into Dubuque, approximately 80 miles. Exit U.S. 61 at Grandview and turn left on University Avenue to campus. The Oyen Soccer field is located in the University of Dubuque Park on south campus.
Oct. 9 at Wheaton (Ill.): To reach Wheaton College (Ill.) in Wheaton, Ill., follow I-294 to I-88 (East-West Tollway). Exit at Naperville Road and go left at the bottom of the ramp. Follow Naperville Road north to Roosevelt Road and turn right. Go three or four blocks to Chase Street and turn left. Cross railroad tracks and Joe Bean Stadium Field is on the right, near the football field.
Oct 24 vs. Finlandia: The team will leave campus on Friday, Oct. 23 and stay overnight on Oct. 23-24 at the Comfort Inn (4040 2nd Street, South, 320-251-1500) in St. Cloud, Minn. The Oct. 24 Finlandia University game will be played at the National Sports Center, home of the Minnesota Thunder, in Blaine, Minn. To reach that facility, take I-94 north to Milwaukee, Wis. Exit I-94 at I-894 west around Milwaukee. Exit I-894 at I-94 west. Follow I-94 past Eau Claire, Wis., and into Minnesota. Exit I-94 at I-694 north (Exit 249). Merge onto I-35 west (Exit 41B). Merge onto U.S. Highway 10 toward Anoka, Minn. (Exit 30). Merge onto Central Avenue (Minnesota Highway 65 north). Take a slight right onto 105th Avenue (County Road 87 east).
Oct. 25 at St. John’s (Minn.): To reach St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minn., return to I-94 west toward St. Cloud, Minn. Exit I-94 at County Road 159 (exit #156) and turn left to Collegeville, Minn. Follow County Road 150 for approximately 1.5 miles to the campus.
Oct. 31 at Illinois Wesleyan: To reach Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill., take I-55 south to Bloomington, Ill. Exit on Business U.S.-51 south and go past Illinois State University. Turn left on Emerson Street and cross westbound U.S.-51 to the Illinois Wesleyan campus. The Neis Soccer Field is between the Illinois Wesleyan Stadium and the hospital.
