2008 Carthage Men’s Track and Field Review/2009 Season Outlook

2008 Season Review

The Carthage College men’s track and field team (51-22 outdoor record) finished third at the 2008 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Outdoor Track & Field Championship at North Park University’s Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago.  Augustana College (Ill.) won its 15th league championship with 238.50 points, followed by North Central College second at 218, Carthage third at 123.50, Illinois Wesleyan University fourth at 89, Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth at 76, Millikin University sixth at 30, North Park University seventh at 25 and Elmhurst College eighth with 17 points. 

The Red Men collected first-place finishes from Tylor Lewis (Jr., Waterford, Wis./Union) in the 800-meter run (1:56.11), Buzzy Brown (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in the long jump (23-4), Prentis Wilbourn (So., Racine, Wis./Case) in the triple jump (45-10 ¾) and Kenton Rauwerdink (Sr., Hingham, Wis./Oostburg) in the decathlon (6,104 points).  Shaun Jozwiak (graduated-senior, Johnsburg, Ill./McHenry-Johnsburg) was second in the discus (144-3) and third in the shot put (48-10 ½).  Jon Kochmit (Sr., Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) finished second in the hammer throw (167-3 ½), as did Spencer Williams (Sr., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) in the shot put (49-6 ½).  Michael White (graduated-senior, New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:21.99), as was Nate Hughes (Sr., Antioch, Ill.) in the javelin (180-1 ½).

Both Michael White and Buzzy Brown qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship.  White finished 14th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:23.90), while Brown did not reach the finals in the long jump.

Carthage finished fourth at the 2008 CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis.  North Central College won its eighth-straight indoor league title with 220 points, followed by Augustana College (Ill.) second at 141.50, Illinois Wesleyan University third at 91, Carthage fourth at 90, Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth at 56.50, Millikin University sixth at 31, Elmhurst College seventh at 20 and North Park University eighth with 12 points.

Buzzy Brown won the indoor long jump (23-0 ¾), while finishing fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.85).  Brown qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, in the long jump, but he did not score in the event.  Tylor Lewis won the CCIW 800-meter run (TARC-record 1:55.30).  Seth Kuttruff (graduated-senior, Tomah, Wis.) finished second in the 55-meter high hurdles (8.16), as did Prentis Wilbourn in the triple jump (43-7 ½) and Shaun Jozwiak in the shot put (47-0 ½).  Justin Sebens (So., Seymour, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) finished fifth in the high jump (6-1 ¼).
