Al Stiefel finished second three straight years in the CCIW championship (1964-66) and third in 1967. In 1965, Stiefel finished 59th at the NCAA College Division Cross Country Championship. In 1967, he finished 19th at the NCAA championship and was later named an NAIA All-American with an eighth-place finish at the NAIA Cross Country Championship..
Dennis Kramer was Carthage’s first CCIW medalist, taking first place in 1966. Kramer finished second in 1967 and 1968 and took medalist honors for the second time in his senior year of 1969. Kramer finished 39th in the 1969 NAIA Cross Country Championship.
Joe McGhee collected three third-place finishes and a second in CCIW championship competition (1970-73) and was named an NAIA All-American in 1973 with a 15th-place finish in the NAIA Cross Country Championship.
