Carthage provides a monthly statement for all student accounts with an actual balance greater than zero (0). Two copies of the statement are made available to resident students, one copy to the student in his/her mailbox on campus and one copy addressed to the student at the home address. Statements for commuter students are only sent to the home address.
Statements sent to the home are clearly identifiable in a Carthage window envelope, stamped "STATEMENT ENCLOSED". If you wish special mailing instructions for these statements, please contact the Business Office to make appropriate arrangements.
Carthage does not charge interest on student accounts if payments are received as requested. There will, however, be a late payment fee applied to overdue accounts. This fee will equal 1% of the total unpaid balance. Additionally, any financial aid award not applied to a student's account before March 1, because of a failure to provide necessary financial aid documentation, will become subject to this late payment fee.
Financial aid awards for either the Federal or College Work Study programs only represent an obligation on the part of the College to make available sufficient hours of employment to meet the value of the award. Placement for all campus employment positions is coordinated through the Office of Student Financial Planning. Each eligible student will be directed to an employment supervisor, but it is up to the student to seek out this supervisor, establish an appropriate employment schedule, and then make him/herself available for the necessary hours to fulfill this award.
Work-study payments are in the form of wages and are subject to both state and federal income taxes. Earnings from such employment can only be applied to a student’s account as the wages are actually earned. Consequently, these awards are not considered a direct award of financial aid to a student. The net payment requested by Carthage at the beginning of the academic year does not recognize wages to be earned on campus during the academic year. If these earnings are to be utilized for payment of tuition and fees, the use of a payment plan is required.
All full-time Carthage students receive a photo identity card for use on campus. This card is required to gain entry to the residence halls and dining room, to charge textbooks at the beginning of each term, to register for classes, to check-out materials at the library, and to cash checks on campus. This photo "ID" is provided free of charge at the beginning of each student's college career, with a $15.00 fee to replace lost cards. This permanent card is much like a credit card as it is magnetically encoded with the student's "ID" number and can be read electronically by scanners at the dining room and residence hall entrances. Only authorized students are admitted into these areas.
Each student is responsible for providing his/her own health insurance program. Carthage does not provide, nor make available, student health insurance. As protection for the College and the Kenosha medical community, a program to cover the cost of emergency treatment is carried by Carthage, but only as secondary coverage to the health insurance program provided by the student.
The EIIA Student Insurance Weblink provides more detailed information regarding student insurance.
Each residence hall room is equipped with a telephone jack, which operates with any standard telephone. This jack is part of the College telephone system and is a live internal extension which can be called directly from the outside, twenty-four hours a day, without going through the College operator. While there is no charge for this service, the student must provide his/her own standard residential telephone set.
Students wishing to make outside calls have two options. The student can arrange with the college to have outside calling service provided through the residence room phone. Students do not have the option of contracting with the local phone company for standard residential phone service. Or, the use of personal cell phones is another means of making outside calls.
To transfer funds from your general student account to your telephone, parking, or point accounts complete the Funds Transfer Authorization form and return it to the Business Office.
