The Department of Business Administration offers several special programs that enrich a business student's education and experience while at Carthage.
The A.W. Clausen Center for World Business is both a first-class learning facility and an active presence in the business community. The Center has brought prominent speakers to Carthage, hosted economic seminars and conferences, and is committed to community service through outreach to secondary and primary schools. The facility itself has the handsome appearance of a corporate headquarters, with state-of-the-art technology to help students develop professional presentation skills. Students have their own board room, and classrooms are small to encourage lively group discussion.
Field placements and internships give students valuable experience in a real work environment. Students work as interns for area businesses and other organizations, usually during J-Term or summer break. Two types of field placements are available: Self-designed field placements and department field placements. This program, offered through Carthage's Adult Education Department, is intended for working executives seeking their MBAs. The Loyola University Chicago Master of Business Administration for Executives is ranked among the top 10 part-time MBA programs in the United States. Equivalent to a traditional MBA, it allows executives to learn while they’re in the midst of challenging careers. Typical participants are executives in corporate, public or not-for-profit organizations who have had at least eight years of managerial responsibility. Loyola professors teach the classes on the Carthage campus.
