Internships

Many Carthage business students work as interns at nearby companies during J-Term or summer break. These field placements give students career insights, a professional network, and valuable experience in a real work environment.

Sara Niedzwiecki, ’10

Major: Accounting and Business Administration
Internship: Jockey International

Sara Niedzwiecki, of Door County, Wis., spent her junior year J-Term interning at Jockey International in Kenosha. She was asked back for a full-time internship this summer. An accounting and business administration major, she is working in Jockey's Internal Audit Department.

"I am working on many small projects, but I play a larger role in the Retail Store Audits, which are conducted throughout the year," Sara said. "I could possibly be working part time in the fall, too, if there is a business need for me."

Sara heard about the Jockey internship through one of her accounting professors. "I jumped at the chance, interviewed and got it!" she said. "I really feel an internship will make me stand out in a sea of job applications, as well as show me what a real day at work will be like."

Sara said she's learned a lot on her internship so far. "I have learned that investing time into a project can really make you feel accomplished when it’s finally complete. I have learned this through class projects before, but that feeling shouldn’t end when college does. It should be life-long."

Another lesson? "Don't sit at the executives' lunch table on your first day of work," she says and laughs. "A lot of people might stare."

After graduation, Sara plans to take the CPA exam. "In 10 years, I see myself owning my own business or working for a great company," she says. "I have had so many opportunities at Carthage. I have joined three wonderful organizations where I have developed personally. So many interesting classes are offered here — ones that have nothing to do with accounting at all. I’ve had the chance to take those and learn something I normally would not."
