"A Creation of Importance: The Works of Diederich Kortlang"
H. F. Johnson Gallery of Art

The H.F. Johnson Gallery of Art at Carthage presents a retrospective exhibition of paintings, drawings, prints and tapestries by German artist Diederich Kortlang (1925-1974). "A Creation of Importance: The Works of Diederich Kortlang" will be featured at the gallery Oct. 22-Nov. 21.

An opening reception will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22. Dr. Wendell Mathews will present a gallery talk about the artist and his works at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Kortlang exhibited widely in America and overseas. His lush colors and dramatic compositions are a combination of his German heritage and the influence of the environment of the South American countries where he lived and taught. In 1972, Kortlang and his family moved to Kenosha, where he began teaching art at Carthage. After his sudden death in 1974 at the age of 49, Kortlang’s works have continued to be exhibited. On the 35th anniversary of his death, Carthage honors the man and his work in this fine exhibition.

The H.F. Johnson Gallery of Art is located at Carthage, south of A.F. Siebert Chapel. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 6-8 p.m. Thursday evenings, and 1-4 p.m. Saturday.

Open to audiences: All Audiences
