American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is looking for Volunteer Instructors to teach First Aid, CPR, AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and Babysitter's Training courses. This is a great opportunity for Carthage students to gain teaching and public speaking experience as they teach others how to save lives. Hours are flexible, evenings and weekends. Some training required.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kenosha and Racine
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a youth mentoring organization that pairs community youth with adult role models. You can have the chance to get a "little brother/sister" of your own, and make a difference in their life. Hours vary, but are generally two to four visits a month.
Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha
The Boys and Girls Club offers programs and services that promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. The Kenosha branch of this organization is in need of volunteers to help with their afterschool programs. Duties would include: tutoring youth, providing homework assistance,and running arts and crafts, recreation, and sports activities. Hours would be in the afternoons between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Brookside Nursing Home
Brookside Nursing Home has many opportunities for service. Volunteers can run activities, such as Bingo or arts and crafts projects, or just come to socialize with the residents. You can take residents out for a walk, play games with them, write letters for them, or read to them. Hours are flexible.
Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services, Inc.
Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services, Inc. provides services to frail, elderly and disabled persons living in Kenosha County. The organization is in need of volunteers for several of their programs, including: "Meals on Wheels" - deliver meals to elderly persons, "Friendly Visitors Program" - visit with a local senior citizen providing companionship and company, "Volunteer Escort Program" - taking seniors to their doctors appointments, and the "Day Break" program - facilitate structured activities for persons suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Hours vary. Volunteers can give as little as one hour a month!
Racine County Human Services Department
The Human Services Department is searching for Volunteer Guardians. A Volunteer Guardian is an adult appointed by the Probate Court to protect, act, and make decisions for a person in need of a guardian. Once appointed, a guardian is accountable to the Court for providing proper care and management of the ward's best interest. A volunteer guardian must be 21 years old and a resident of Wisconsin. Volunteers must have a caring heart and a willingness to assist the
individuals in living their life with dignity.
Racine Literacy Council
Racine Literacy Council matches volunteers to adults who need help with basic literacy, as well as persons who speak English as a Second Language (ESL). Volunteers (tutors) would be required to complete a 17 and a half hours training, certifying them in the Racine Literacy Council's program. Volunteers would need to be available for 2 hours a week. This would be a great opportunity for education majors!
Racine Zoo
The Racine Zoo is one of only 11 free zoos remaining in the country. As such, it is extremely important that they have a strong volunteer base. Volunteers have a wide variety of options. They can help with facilities management and animal care, work to organize special events, such as the zoos Halloween and Christmas activities, help with conservation education, or work in the gift shop. Hours are flexible.
Saxony Manor
Saxony Manor is a senior citizens home in Kenosha. They are in need of volunteers to run bingo, and interact and socialize with the residents. Volunteers would be needed once or twice a month for two hours at a time.
Shalom Center
The Shalom Center provides food, shelter, housing, and support for those in need. Volunteers are needed for a wide variety of activities, includin: assistance with the food pantry, soup kitchen, children's classrooms, shelter services, as well as fundraising and special events. Hours vary.
