Derrick Collins is the Director of Johnson Hall and Director of Multicultural Affairs at Carthage. In this position he oversees the daily operation of the Johnson Hall residences life team and as the first Director of Multicultural Affairs at Carthage, Derrick is challenged with facilitating and promoting diversity across the entire campus. He works in partnership with students and other campus leadership to develop an atmosphere at Carthage that is open to all people in the community no matter their background. Derrick graduated from Carthage in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and Marketing. While a student at Carthage Derrick was a three year member of Student Government, having served as Treasurer for two years. He was also a Resident Assistant and Assistant Hall Director for one year. Derrick was involved with Delta Upsilon International Fraternity, Black Student Union, and worked in the Office of College Relations as a student fundraising manager. His highlights at Carthage were creating the Wisconsin Private College Initiative for Diversity (WPCID) Conference, which is a conference that focuses on diversity issues at all of the Wisconsin private colleges. WPCID is now in its fourth year. Derrick was also honored in his senior year to be chosen as the 2005 Male Student Leader of the Year and to speak to his graduating peers at the New Alumni Convocation.After graduating from Carthage, Derrick worked at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Development before he returned to Carthage to work in Admissions. He appreciates the opportunity of returning to the Dean of Students Office and is excited for the year ahead. Derrick hopes to pursue a Master’s Degree program in the near future. When not working, Derrick enjoys the different services groups he’s involved with, traveling, and hanging out with family and friends. |
