The Theta Chi Delta honorary chemistry fraternity has been at Carthage since 1926. The organization works to provide services for those students who are studying in the field of chemistry. Activities include field trips, participating in chemistry outreach programs at Carthage and local schools, and selling items for use in the chemistry classes and labs.
The Carthage chemistry department is approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS), and an ACS-certified chemistry degree is offered. Our science equipment and instrumentation is cutting-edge, and you don't compete with graduate students to use it. All of our courses and labs are taught by professors - we do not use teaching assistants. With classes at Carthage averaging 19 students, personal attention is assured. Your professors will know you by name, and take a genuine interest in your personal and professional success.
Chemistry majors have the opportunity to pursue ScienceWorks. This entrepreneurial studies minor gives you intensive exposure to all aspects of business with a specific focus on developing and/or working in science-based business.
Nationwide, chemistry majors reported starting salaries averaging in the range of $35,000 to $45,000 in 2001. Recent recipients of master's degrees in chemical engineering earned $57,943 on the average.
