Demand for surveyors and mapping scientists is expected to decline slightly through 2006, as the widespread availability and use of advanced technologies, such as GIS, increases. Employment may fluctuate along with construction activity.
The national average starting salary for geography majors was $23,399 in 2001. New graduates of master's program in geological and related sciences earned an average of $42,875 in 2001. Geographers with a few years experience earn $38,109 on the average and urban planners with some experience make $33,993 on the average.
