Applying to Graduate School

Compile a list of the 15-20 graduate schools that are of most interest to you. Contact each requesting a catalog, application forms and financial aid material. Each school sets its own requirements regarding application material, admission exams, deadlines, etc. It is imperative to check with each school to find out their specific requirements. Plan ahead, deadlines may be well in advance of the term in which you wish to begin your studies. Very competitive programs may have deadlines as early as November or December of the previous year. In addition, some programs may allow you to enter at only one point during the academic year, typically the fall semester. Below is a list of typical entrance exams. Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) Additional Admission Requirements Grade Point Average - A 3.0 GPA is required for acceptance to most graduate schools. If your GPA does not meet this standard, you should focus on enhancing other admission requirements such as your scores on the entrances exams and your personal statement. Letters of Recommendation - Choose people that can comment positively on your skills and abilities related to the degree you wish to pursue. Possible choices could include professors and past/current employers. Personal Statement - To be effective a personal statement should explain your reasons for pursuing this degree. How will it help you attain the goals that you have set for yourself? |
