Career Services
Resources for Finding an Internship
While Career Services offers resources and assistance in helping
you find an internship site, we do not offer placement services.
It is the responsibility of the student to secure an internship
with an employer. (Please note that hiring decisions are made by
the employer, not by the Career Services Director.)
SERVICES for Students Seeking Internships
-
Postings: Internship openings that are posted
by employers can be found utilizing the Carthage online job
posting system, Carthage Career Connection.
Current students please contact Career Services for your user
name and password.
-
On-Campus Recruiting: Employers conduct
interviews on campus for full-time and internship positions in
the spring and fall.
-
On-Line Resources: Check out the Career
Services website for links to internship postings.
-
Publications: The Career Services library
resources include several books listing internship
opportunities.
-
Internship Resource Database: The IRD is a
database maintained by Career Services where information about
potential internship sites is organized. The IRD also includes
information about past and present employers who have hired
Carthage interns. Make an appointment with Career Services to
conduct a search of the database.
OTHER RESOURCES
-
Personal Networks: Activate your personal
network of friends, family members, former employers, etc. Let
everyone know what kind of internship you are seeking. Most job
openings are advertised only by word of mouth.
-
Faculty: Oftentimes faculty members are
contacted directly by employers. Check with the faculty of your
department to see if they have any suggestions.
-
Direct Contact: Use general resources, like
the yellow
pages or the Area Employers
page on this website, to identify companies at which you might
like to intern. Call the Human Resources department and inquire
about potential opportunities for interns.
