Why take Social Science at Carthage?
Carthage students can opt to major in broadfield social science instead
of a full major in another social science discipline. Twenty-four
credits of concentration are required in a core subject: geography,
history, political science, sociology, economics or psychology. Courses
are then taken in any or all of these subjects to complete the major.
Any student can complete a broadfield social science major. The major
is especially popular with students pursuing middle/secondary education
licensure, where a major in a content area is required. Note that
broadfield social science does not meet the requirements for a teaching
minor for elementary/middle education licensure. In that instance
students must complete a teaching minor in a specific field of study.
