Communication and Digital Media

The Department of Communication and Digital Media offers majors in communication, graphic design and public relations, and minors in communication and public relations. The department houses all three areas of study because the three fields are so connected within the job market. Students are trained in written and oral communication, with special emphases on ethical considerations and on the ability to communicate using electronic and digital media.

Majors are designed to blend the theoretical and the practical, giving students a solid foundation in the liberal arts tradition and the skills required for employment in the field. Both historical and modern theories are examined as platform for critical faculties and the skills required to become an effective communicator.

Carthage CDM majors develop excellent interpersonal communication, group problem solving, creative thinking and organization skills, making them more competitive in the job market, no matter what career path they pursue. Employers consistently rank communication as one of the top skills they look for in potential employees.

Recent graduates have gained employment or pursued graduate study in graphic design, public relations, media, journalism, sales, education, and law.
