The Carthage
Chapel Series

Siebert Chapel 2009-2010

Bridges to Peace
Mondays, 10:30-10:55 a.m., Ehrler Chapel

On Mondays during the school year, the Carthage community participates in Bridges to Peace, a unique program for topical discussions that encourage students, faculty, and staff to interact and share their passions and insights concerning contemporary culture, academic research, international affairs, social concerns, and personal interests. Through these discussions we engage in constructive examination of matters important to us and of significance to the world around us, including the educational experiences that have transformed us and helped us grow. Conversations like these can become bridges leading to peace within ourselves, our society, and our global community.

If you are interested in sharing your ideas and offering leadership at Bridges to Peace, please contact the dean of Siebert Chapel, Pastor Harvard Stephens, at (262) 551-5812, or send an e-mail to: hstephens@carthage.edu. After a brief consultation, he will schedule your presentation and promote your participation in this exciting series.

Morning Worship
Wednesdays, 10:30-10:55 a.m., Siebert Chapel

On Wednesdays the dean of Siebert Chapel invites the campus community to gather for Morning Worship and celebrate the message of Christ and the power of faith in the world today. These weekly services also provide an opportunity for the Carthage music ensembles to share their gifts. Throughout the school year you can come to Siebert Chapel and hear inspiring music featuring the Carthage Choir, the Carthage Women’s Ensemble, the Lincoln Chamber Singers, the Siebert Chapel Choir, the Carthage Wind Orchestra, the Jazz Crusaders, and the Gospel Messengers. Morning Worship includes Bible readings from the Revised Common Lectionary and reflects the themes of the church year. The liturgies feature the best of Lutheran traditions, spiced with an ecumenical flavor.

If you are interested in sharing your ideas and offering leadership at Morning Worship, please contact the dean of Siebert Chapel, Pastor Harvard Stephens, at (262) 551-5812, or send an e-mail to: hstephens@carthage.edu.

Invitation to Meditation
Fridays, 10:30-10:55 a.m., Fritsch Meditation Chapel

On Fridays the Carthage community is invited to gather in the Fritsch Meditation Chapel for a time of stillness and contemplative prayer. Invitation to Meditation offers a safe space for quiet meditation and reflection as we retreat from the stress of campus life and renew our spirits by sharing the gift of silence. Meditation is practiced today by people of many faiths and cultures. It is a spiritual discipline that helps us restore balance and mental clarity. Join us for Invitation to Meditation, and listen to the still small voice within that bears the hope: "For God alone my soul in silence waits." (Psalm 62:5)

Sunday Worship
Sundays, 7-8 p.m., Joan C. Potente Chapel

On Sunday evenings, worship services are scheduled in the beautiful Joan C. Potente Chapel, located on the south end of campus near the Oaks Residence Halls. We gather to sing and pray and reflect on the assigned Bible readings, and at most of these services Holy Communion is offered. Students often linger after the service ends to build community and encourage one another as a new week begins.

Catholic Mass is also offered every Sunday at 8:45 p.m. in Siebert Chapel.

Some Sundays provide special opportunities for morning or afternoon services in Siebert Chapel. During Homecoming and Family Weekend, alumni and friends of the College join us for festive worship services, usually scheduled at 9 a.m. Several times each year, we also invite the community to join us at 3 p.m. for a Service of Word and Song to celebrate the themes of Reformation, Thanksgiving, Lent, or Palm Sunday. Please pay attention to the Chapel Schedule for current information and a detailed schedule of topics.

If you are interested in sharing your ideas and offering leadership at Sunday Worship, please contact the dean of Siebert Chapel, Pastor Harvard Stephens, at (262) 551-5812, or send an e-mail to: hstephens@carthage.edu.
