Siebert Chapel

Commissioned in 1971, completed in 1975, and located in the middle of the Carthage campus, the A. F. Siebert Chapel is symbolic of the College's relationship to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and its roots in the Christian faith. The mission of the College makes it implicit that opportunities be provided for both students and faculty to explore and share faith perspectives to life. Its Lutheran tradition grants the freedom to examine and understand the wide variety of religious choices available today.

The Chapel seats 1,800 and is the gathering place for many college activities. In addition to the weekly Chapel Series, the Chapel hosts the Christmas Festival, Honors Convocation, and Baccalaureate services. Many other music events are held in the Chapel throughout the year as well as Synod Assemblies of the ELCA.

Holding a prominent place in the nave of the Chapel is the massive Fritsch Memorial Organ. This four-manual tracker-action pipe organ (photo) designed by Casavant Fréres of Quebec, Canada, contains 3,495 pipes in five divisions.
