









Carthage encourages students from all majors to develop a passion for leadership and allows them to hone their skills in Team, Leadership and Character Development. At Carthage, students can earn a certificate of completion in Leadership through the Character Quest program.
The program is specifically designed for undergraduate students who want to understand the nature of Team, Leadership and Character effectiveness and desire to be influential on campus, in the community and as professionals. The program provides applications to live a life of significance and success.
Students participating in the certification process are part of an active and diverse community of various leadership roles through Carthage's 90-plus student organizations and athletic programs. They will work closely with Board of Trustee member Dean Matthews, Dean of Students Office staff and Athletic Department staff. During their time at Carthage, they will have many opportunities to practice and explore concepts of Team, Leadership and Character Development through the many different experiential programs offered at Carthage.
Completion of the certification process can be accomplished by completing six requirements: Outdoor Experiential Learning, 360 Class: Situational Case Studies,Custom Leadership Integration Coaching, General Course 271: Classic to Contemporary Leadership Theory, a Campus Leadership Application Project, and a Servant Leadership Application Project. This process can be completed in one academic year.
The Leadership path out of crisis and into peace, or out of the familiar and into the novel, is often full of adversity and unknowns. Like a quest through the deep dark wilderness at night, challenged by unfamiliar barriers disguised by darkness.
The study of Leadership is the study of how men and women guide us through empty and frightening expanses of uncharted territory.
Leadership opportunities are indeed voyages of discovery and adventures of a lifetime. They are challenging explorations under rigorous conditions. It does require a pioneering spirit to lead.
These are the conditions that foster Leadership.
