Character Quest

Program Requirements

Students must apply to Character Quest in spring for the following academic year. The participant selection process is rigorous. The program seeks active campus leaders, or those with the potential to be leaders, whose involvement will benefit both participants and the larger campus community. Apply now.

Completion of the Team-Leadership-Character Development Certification process can be accomplished by completing the following six requirements. This process can be completed in one academic year.

1. Outdoor Experiential Learning: Commando Training

Students spend three days in the wilderness, led by Character Quest and Carthage staff. Through various missions and challenges, students explore leadership principles and character effectiveness. Read more.

2. 360 Class: Situational Case Studies

These monthly seminars are held throughout the academic year. The two-hour classes include presentations, interactive case study videos and discussion. Read more.

3. Custom Leadership Integration Coaching (CLIC)

The next step of the certification process focuses on the individual student and his or her needs. Participants meet with a Character-Quest certified coach for individual coaching sessions. Read more.

4. Carthage Class: Required Leadership Curriculum

Students take a required course that focuses on leadership. Currently, students have the option to take General 271: Classic to Contemporary Leadership Theory. Read more.

5. Campus Leadership Application Project (CLAP)

During their time on campus, students will be required to participate and hold a leadership position in a Carthage athletics, club, organization or Greek fraternity/sorority. This experience, when coupled with the classroom experience and teachings, will allow students to apply theoretical concepts to campus scenarios.

6. Servant Leadership Application Project (SLAP)

The Servant Leadership Application Project is the final phase for Leadership Certification. Students will partner with a Harborside High School student once a month and mentor their students in the areas of Team, Leadership and Character Development. Read more.

One's moral, spiritual and ethical fiber; which serves as a foundation to support all thoughts, decisions and actions.

Leadership

The process of influencing others to accomplish a task by providing purpose, direction and inspiration through service and support.
