Welcome back students and faculty! Professors Richard Heitman and Christine Renaud return from their sabbaticals to rejoin the rest of the department.
In Spring 2009 the department held the second induction of students into the Theta Omicron Chapter of Eta Sigma Phi, the Classics national honor society.
The Classics Department will offer two excavation experiences in summer 2010, as part of Carthage's J-Term.
Omrit, Israel: Professor Daniel Schowalter will take a team of students to Omrit in northern Israel to spend five weeks excavating at the site of an ancient Roman temple. For more information, contact Professor Schowalter at dschowalter@carthage.edu.
Villa delle Vignacce, Rome: Excavations at the Villa delle Vignacce site are recruiting for their fifth season after a very successful and exciting fourth season. Professor Renaud went to Rome to excavate at the Villa delle Vignacce with an Italian-American team (American Institute of Roman Culture). The luxury villa/bath lies at the fourth mile of the Via Latina, next to a series of aqueducts. For more information, please contact Professor Chris Renaud at crenaud@carthage.edu.
Both summer J-Term courses will be Carthage Symposia. The course name for both courses will be CLAS 325: Field Archaeology.
