Candidate Dispositions

Development and evaluation of teaching dispositions are embedded in and tied to the classes listed below, clinical experiences, and student teaching.

1. Before TEP: EDUC 105

2. During TEP: 272, 325, 326, 351, 352, 354, 357, 420 (and other courses as needed).

3. During Student Teaching with items imbedded in the student teacher evaluation.

Class syllabi may reflect procedures for review and use of dispositions within each class and clinical experience. Dispositions are identified in the checklist rubric. The checklist will be used by professors, supervisors, and cooperating teachers to review student progress during the semester. It is possible that an N/A rating may appear in some categories if an observer doesn't see evidence to be able to rate the line item. Candidates are guaranteed a minimum of three career reviews within this plan.

Disposition rating sheets will be filed in student folders in the Education Office and given to the candidate. Any overall unsatisfactory ratings in any of the dispositions will be brought to the department for review. Candidates who receive unsatisfactory ratings in an overall category must provide written responses to the professor and advisor. These faculty members may use the rating sheets and the written responses as a source of information for counseling the candidate. A second overall categorical unsatisfactory rating will require the candidate to appear before the Education Faculty for a hearing. The information from disposition rating sheets will be reviewed at the TEP admission, student teaching admission, and during prescribed portfolio review times (entry into TEP and completion of EDUC 222, student teaching application, and student teaching seminar).
